Over 5000 doses of H1N1 Vaccine Administered in Cornwall – EOHU – Cornwall Ontario – November 2, 2009

First Week of H1N1 Immunization Clinics in the 5 Eastern Counties a Success

During the first week of its H1N1 immunization clinics, the Eastern Ontario Health Unit successfully immunized approximately 20,700 residents in the region. For the most part, the six simultaneously-run clinics operated smoothly and with few problems. While clinic lines were long in some areas on Friday, the first day of the clinics, the wait times improved at both the Saturday and the Sunday clinics.

“We want to thank those who showed up to our clinics for their cooperation and patience as we launched this massive undertaking,” states Dr. Paul Roumeliotis, Medical Officer of Health. “We also appreciate the patience and understanding of residents who are waiting to get their vaccines until those most at risk are immunized.”

The following table illustrates the approximate number of people immunized at each clinic:

Alexandria 2,100
Casselman 2,200
Chesterville 2,200
Cornwall 5,000
Hawkesbury 2,000
Rockland 2,200

An additional 5,000 doses of vaccine were administered to healthcare workers or distributed to hospitals to immunize high-risk, hospitalized patients and hospital employees.
