H1 N1 Flu Vaccines Open to All – Cornwall Ontario – November 16, 2009

EOHU H1N1 Immunization Clinics Now Open to Everyone

As of this week’s clinics on November 19th and 20th, the Eastern Ontario Health Unit is expanding the H1N1 immunization program to everyone aged 6 months and over.

“We’re pleased to be able to open the clinics up to everyone,” states Dr. Paul Roumeliotis, Medical Officer of Health. “We encourage everyone to get immunized. It continues to be the best way to protect yourself and others from getting ill with H1N1.”

Vaccine recommendations for children

According to the latest Ministry guidelines, children aged 6 months to under 3 years, as well as children between 3 and 9 years of age with an underlying medical condition, should receive two half-doses of the vaccine, given at least 21 days apart. Healthy children between 3 to 9 years of age do not require a second dose at this time.

To date, the total number of H1N1 vaccines administered in the five Eastern Counties is approximately 41 000.
