Martin Brodeur Breaks Sawchuk Shut Out Record – 104- Greatest Goalie in NHL History – December 22, 2009

Martin Brodeur is the greatest Goalie to ever put on the pads.   Each day that he continues his career further proves and cements his role in hockey  history.

Last night his 104th shut out broke the record that he had shared briefly with Terry Sawchuk in Pittsburgh no less, as the Devils scored 4 goals and made his job a bit easier.

For years Marty had to fight through the shadow of another great Quebec goalie, Patrick Roy.

It’s funny.  When I worked in Hockey; Patrick was king.  I used to buy photos for events from Marty’s dad Denis, and got to not only know Marty, but get him some of his first autograph signing gigs.  I can tell you their signing fees have changed in ranking 🙂

You could see his star power then, and it’s amazing to see how he’s become the legend he now is.  No tantrums, no waving arms, no leaving the team he was drafted in under a cloud of drama to go and play for the team his former agent GM’d.

Martin Brodeur, a classy person destined now to the NHL Hall of Fame, and the greatest Goalie in NHL history.   Congrats to Marty, his family, and especially his dad Denis.
