Gretzky Lights Up 2010 Winter Olympic Games – Habs Lose – PK Subban Gets 1st NHL Point – Leafs Shut Out – Canucks Win! February 13, 2010

Wayne Gretzky stole the show last night for the opening of the 2010 Winter Olympic games in Vancouver British Columbia last night.   For many; for me I personally enjoyed watching the Jamaican athlete wobbling around as he looked a little discombobulated as the Parade of Nations participating flowed by.

It was ironic watching some of the action.  I really liked the fur clad girls leading each nation.   Did anyone notice the irony of having one of those furry hatted women leading the team from Iran?  The contrast between the full body coverings?  And then having Iran followed by Israel?  That was a delicious moment of political irony that I’m sure had people tittering around the globe.

The opening, marred by an earlier death in a Luge practice run was a visual wonder to behold and made Canadians proud I’m sure.

Sadly however the Montreal Canadiens weren’t quite as patriotic as they fell to the evil Americans from Philadelphia who pushed and bullied them as only bourgeois Capitalist Americans could.   Our brave Canadien’s fell 3-2 although it was good to see newcomer Domenic Moore hit the net, and emergency call up for Andrei Markov, PK Subban, picked up his first NHL point, an assist, in the 3rd period as the Habs tried to rally back and defeat the imperialist American team.   Carey Price took the loss.

Vancouver edged Columbus 4-3, and the Leafs were crunched 4-0 by St.Louis.

The Black Hawks pulled off a trade dumping some Cap Space by trading Cam Barker to the Minnesota Wild for Kim Johnsson and the rights to the Wild’s former number one pick Nick Leddy.

What do you think of the trade?  Feel free to post your comments below.

  1. If it is any consolation, even us Americans from Philadelphia find the pushy Americans to be obnoxious.

Hi JSM, I like Americans. I went to school and have lived in the US. I do like to have a bit of tongue in cheek fun. I do think that the political climate in the US has become very very scary. I liken it to what Texas Hold’em has done to the game of poker. It’s as though Politics in the US is on viagra and sometimes viagra isn’t a good thing.
