Canada Mauls Russia 7-3 – Halak Builds His Legend One Game at a Time Slovak Team Upsets Sweden 4-3 SCORES

If Bob Gainey hadn’t stepped down Jaroslav Halak’s play would probably have got him fired.    Halak is having an Olympic games season of his life.    Last year he got the Habs into the play offs with a burst of wins at the end of the season only to see Carey Price given the starting position in Montreal’s first round loss.

This year he’s shown he’s number one on this team, and his Olympic run to date is nothing short of incredible.   Last night he and his team mates edged power house Sweden 4-3.   Sometimes it’s not about the shut out.  It’s always about the win, and Jaro’s teams seem to win more than lose.

Mike Babcock had Team Canada fired up as the Gold Medal expectations for the team seem to be realizing.  The bench is a bit shorter,  Roberto Luongo is in the net, and the team seems to understand that anything less than Gold is considered a failure in many of the fans that buy their tickets and merchandise eyes.

Jonas Hiller nearly stole a game for team Switzerland who lost 2-0 to Team USA.   Zach Parise was the hero of the night as he finally broke a 0-0 shut out in the third period and then potted an empty net goal.

Mikko Kiprusoff’s the Finnish team shut out the Czech Republic 2-0.

As the Olympics play out the rumor mill is in full force as the trade deadline during the games will be lifted.   Hot rumor is that Chicago is going to trade former Hab Cristobal Huet.
