So I was at the G20 Rally…Why I’m so proud to be a Canadian today! Editorial by Jamie Gilcig – Cornwall Ontario – June 27, 2010 VIDEO

Cornwall ON – I love Canada.  I love being Canadian.   Yesterday was an historic day in our country.   I know many of you have seen titillating images of a burning police car or two, and some broken windows, but standing in the midst of the 20,000 + people attending the rally in Queens Park you felt little tension.

It was a peaceful rally.  You could talk with the police and there clearly wasn’t a lot of that “something’s about to happen” look on their faces.   The crowd was there to vent.  They were there to have their say.

The sad thing is that I’m not so sure anyone is listening?   They’re too busy building fake lakes, posing for photo ops, and playing one upmanship games with our cheque books!

It also was an excuse for about any group to have their moment and try and get their message out.   You had Greenpeace, Oxfam, Unions of all types as well as fringe political parties, and movements from the Tamil’s to Free Tibet.

I think Greenpeace International Executive Director Kumi Naidoo summed up many of the thoughts of those protesting.

It was a party in the park and I’m proud that there were no incidents at Queens park.  I watched as the officers peddled away en masse heading off to where a group of masked attackers marred the day.

We were chatting that it must’ve been very hard for the police at the event as they were there to protect the protesters as well as the area; not an easy mix.

The Free Marc Emery people had their spot too.

Dylan McMullin sings his Marc Emery Tribute song.

They chose not to march in the rally as they shared they were concerned of potentially being involved in any disturbances.   They smoked their green, wore their flags, and had their say to those that came to them.

We’ll be doing a few stories about the day and some surrounding stories.  If you have any photos, videos, comments from the day if you were there feel free to email us at info@cornwallfreenews.com and you can post your comments below as well.

  1. Over $ 1 billion in gas on the fire

Looking at the G8 and G20 summits with the wrong values, Canada spent over $ 1 billion, hoping to avoid the violent protests that marred recent gatherings of these global forums in Pittsburgh and London.

The challenge was open to all contestants. Come and test yourself! There was a big self-esteem reward to the ones able to beat the $ 1 billion security labyrinth. So, not surprisingly, downtown Toronto was in chaos Saturday as roving bands of G20 protesters smashed windows and set fire to police vehicles. Protester with masks and gas had fun participating in a stand off with riot police on Bay Street.

Challenge and fun are the two keywords here. Nobody is paid on the protesters side. Many of them pay hundreds of dollars to go there, knowing they will wake up in jail in the morning. Shields, clubs, tear gas and pepper spray police used to push back the marchers are only toys black-clad protesters play with. Police give them free! Hundreds of videos were made of these live games. They will worth their weight in gold as souvenirs.

The Toronto police chief blamed the destruction on violent “anarchists”. The ones to blame are the ones creating the game they proposed to these players. As usual, Canadian police and security services do not think outside the box. They bought over $ 1 billion of gas for the G20 protesters bonfire.

  2. this was a set up

and the public got suckered right into it

  3. Yep, it was a set up. What should have happened is nothing, and show up the governments for being so ballistically stupid for spending so much on this. But again, the real criminals are the government for throwing it in Toronto to begin with. And as you said Russell, the public got suckered right into it..

  4. Yay…. violence = more funding for police. Shouldn’t a civilized society need less and less police officers? More funding for police should be a wake up call that something isn’t working.

  5. Yes Jason, unfortunately our civilized society is not so civilized!

  6. Looks like the great god of evolution is failing! The lie of Satan -“ye shall be gods” wasn’t true after all. Forget God, forsake God, turn away from obeying His Holy Word what happens? God does not sit idly by while His creation seeks to cast Him off. No, He sends judgment. Not the fire and brimstone kind of judgment (not yet that is, that is reserved for the Great Tribulation period to come), but the type of judgment whereby God removes the restraints upon the hearts of wicked sinners. God punishes sinners by allowing them to commit more sin! Note the following verses:

Rom 1:24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: Rom 1:26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: Rom 1:28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient.

God “gave them over”, God “gave them up”! The biblical principal is simple: forsake God and He forsakes you! This applies to individuals and as while to a nation(s). He allows you to fulfill the unrestrained desires of your heart. He allows us to have what we want. The result – we destroy each other, and we further fall under the righteous judgment of God. Psa 76:10 Surely the wrath of man shall praise thee: the remainder of wrath shalt thou restrain. Psa 9:17 The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.

The solution: submit unto the authority of King Jesus, and by God’s enabling grace begin to live a holy, righteous life before God and man. Pro 14:34 Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.

Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him. (Psa. 2:10-12)

Tom I have a question for you. You had the Communist party of Canada at the peaceful part of the rally. As you know Communism doesn’t believe in any god so could you explain perhaps why they, as well as the Socialists, Marxists Leninists, and a slew of religious types other than yours were untouched and unbothered by police?

Since you weren’t there and I was I can tell you that essentially the real rally was over and the buses gone when the party started.

The sincerity and passion of many of those there was humbling. Their messages sadly will go mostly unheard because of a tiny group that decided bashing windows, burning police cars, and assaulting police are more productive.

  8. Jamie: it is not just the hoodlums that God gives over to a reprobate mind. It is the educated, the well refined, like those in Rom 1:22 “Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.”

All those systems of political ideology that you listed – “Communist party, the Socialists, Marxists Leninists, and a slew of religious types” boast in their godlessness, and simply they are the blind leading the blind – no light at all. There is no salvation in the political process. Political fools becoming bigger and better political fools as they try to change the system without God and without obeying His word. They must play the game, and as they do they become part of the problem and not part of the solution. The system wins every time! True, honest and lasting reformation will not happen until King Jesus ascends to His throne, and He begins to reign. Then the kingdom of Babel will be destroyed, and all will lovingly submit to King Jesus!

  9. The bible says alot of things. Ex 21: “And if a man sell his daughter to be a maidservant, she shall not go out as the menservants do.” (how much is your daughter worth Tnpreacher?) Lev:21:18-21 For whatsoever man he be that hath a blemish, he shall not approach: a blind man, or a lame, or he that hath a flat nose, or any thing superfluous, Or a man that is brokenfooted, or brokenhanded, Or crookbackt, or a dwarf, or that hath a blemish in his eye, or be scurvy, or scabbed, or hath his stones broken;
No man that hath a blemish of the seed of Aaron the priest shall come nigh to offer the offerings of the LORD made by fire: he hath a blemish; he shall not come nigh to offer the bread of his God.
(how is your eyesight? has your peity decreased with age?) Lev. 24:44 “Both thy bondmen, and thy bondmaids, which thou shalt have, shall be of the heathen that are round about you; of them shall ye buy bondmen and bondmaids.” (how many heathens do you own?)
The vast majority of these protestors are kind gentle people, just trying to have their voice heard. This voice is the greatest gift that can be given, and these theatrics, whether they be from the protestors, or religious fanatics, just ruin it. As for socialism, here is another quote, to interpret as you will. Luke 3:11 “The man with two tunics should share with him who has none, and the one who has food should do the same.”

  10. Those who did the carnage has I call it weren’t protesters, they were just there to cause problems period and make everyone else like you look bad and they did accomplish their goals to a certain extent and they also proved that all this money that was spent on security was a waste. Koodo’s to you and the folks who were with you for doing this peacefully.

  11. Jamie
You are right it was a good rally; it went to prove people cannot come together on a common ground for a common goal. So long as we remain interested in only our own opinions the man will always win. They did again at this summit. A 3 day vacation at our expense

  12. Drew Albert Standford – Were you under the influence when you looked up these Bible verses? “Reefer Madness” – see link http://en.video.canoe.tv/video/classic-film-chest/featured-classics/21520193001/

Any serious Bible student understands the difference between Old Testament times and New Testament. Different times, different law, and different applications. By the way, I am not a Jew living in the Promise Land, so such verses really don’t apply to me. And for your liberal socialistic view of Luke 3:11 – you missed the whole point – repent and turn from sin is the message and application, as one prepares to receive the coming King of Kings as Saviour. By the way, Drew have you done that?

Also Drew there are some good Bible believing, Bible teaching churches out there, so before you start giving us Bible lessons, I would encourage you to start attending, so that you might really begin to understand the Word of God, and be saved by His wonderful grace!

  13. Jamie, it’s seems what the general public saw on television, wasn’t the same as what you saw??????????

  14. willie191 depends on which filter you look through. Polls on CTV show us that 85% condone the police action while 15% were against it.

  15. and the police have filmed all actions. could be interesting with so called victims claiming rights infringments
