Penthouse Magazine Founder Bob Guccione Dies at 79 of Complications From Cancer – October 20, 2010

Cornwall ON – Penthouse founder Bob Guccione has passed away at the age of 79 from complications from Cancer in Texas.

Penthouse was always different than Playboy.  During its hey day in the 70’s Penthouse went out in different directions creating non Nudie Magazine titles and of course creating one of the most famous films in history; Caligula.

At its time nothing had ever been seen like it before.  You had Shakespearean greats like Sir John Geilgud and Peter O’Toole, Helen Mirren, and at his peak, Malcolm MacDowell in essentially the most expensive pornographic movie ever made.

Penthouse eventually went into decline as the internet changed the magazine industry forever.

Mr. Guccione had to sell his famed art collection to pay off debts and eventually the magazine filed for bankruptcy and he resigned.

He leaves behind one son, Bob Guccione Jr.

The two were said to be back on speaking terms before Mr. Guccione’s death.

Robert Charles Joseph Edward Sabatini “Bob” Guccione (17 December 1930 – 20 October 2010)
