Holy Trinity Falcons Defeat St. Joseph Panthers 10-7 – November 5, 2010 – Cornwall Ontario

Cornwall ON – In a cold and wet fall day two Cornwall high schools met on the the Gridiron field of battle.

In a battle reminiscent of Permian versus Dallas Carter from the movie “Friday Night Lights”, this game had all the hype expected from bitter rival schools.

The St Josephs Panthers versus the Holy Trinity Falcons.

One undefeated team against one almost undefeated team. Championship football baby! Anything can happen – and did.

In what is touted as an upset, the junior Holy Trinity Falcons were awarded the area championship with a final score of 10-7.

.

Both teams played hard and tough football.

.

First quarter play was back and forth. A great interception by St Joes’ big man Travis Gaspe followed up by  bone crushing runs from Brad Wilson and Eric Bernier ignited fans but was not enough to score.

The second quarter proved too much for the Panthers when H.T. moved the ball almost completely down the field on penalties which allowed quarterback Jeremy Pike to score and Sam Sutherland to kick the convert.

The second half was tough football again with devastating Panther penalties hurting many scoring opportunities and allowing H.T. to move within field goal range where Sutherland exercised his leg again to put the score at 10-0.

Fourth quarter play awakened to Panther giant but with less than 2 minutes to go, a Jesse St John touchdown and Chris Millward convert could only put the Panthers to 7.

Outstanding play from Justin Cloutier awarded him with the games MVP award. It was a great way to finish off the area high school football season. Great job by all.
