Upper Canada Playhouse Seventeenth Annual Christmas Auction Saturday, November 13th, 2010 – Photos and Story By Reg Coffey

Donnie Bowes, Artistic Director
Morrisburg ON – Saturday night I attended the annual Christmas Auction to support the Upper Canada Playhouse.   I was there with two different hats on, one, representing the Cornwall Free News and the other as a contributor to the auction. I donated a basket full of fresh roasted Coffey’s Coffee and associated equipment for the silent auction.
Just One of the Desert Tables
I suppose you could say I had an even third hat on as a paying dinner guest and participant in the live auction. My wife and I enjoyed a delicious meal and we purchased a wonderful sketch of a wolf by a local artist, George Pinch. If a meal can be judged by the deserts then you can tell that the food was terrific by the looks of this one table of after dinner sweets.
The President of the Board of Directors, Dr. Gerry Rosenquist, began the evening events by thanking
everyone for contributing, attending and participating in the auctions. He outlined that the money raised would be used primarily to complete the on-line reservation system and additional projects such as building an addition to the office.
The event included both silent and live auctions. 48 items were listed for the live segment and the silent auction offered 143 donated items. During the wine and cheese hour everyone got the opportunity to
wander around with beverage in hand, socializing and viewing all of the items while being entertained by Phillip Konopka.
Donnie Bowes, the Artistic Director, is seen above pointing out the members of the cast that were in
attendance and described how the night’s activities would be carried out.
By the end of the evening all of the items for the live auction were sold as were the majority of the silent auction items. It is estimated that over $10,000 was raised at the event last night.
Currently, for the Christmas season, the Playhouse will be performing Donnie Bowes’ adaption of The Christmas Carol. You can find out about the dates and times at their web site:
