Help the CCRI – Nominate the Local Green Champion! November 26, 2010 – Cornwall Ontario

Cornwall ON – Do you know someone doing great work to help Cornwall and area combat climate change?  For the third consecutive year, the Cornwall Carbon Reduction Initiative (CCRI) is seeking nominations of local champions who are helping to make our community a cleaner, greener place to live.

Whether you want to nominate a local business or industry, an organisation or an individual, the CCRI wants to hear about it.  Nominations will be evaluated by the CCRI Board of Directors, and those selected will be recognized at the annual general meeting in March.

In 2009, the CCRI celebrated homeowner Mr. Renaud Grenier and St. Lawrence College facilities manager Mr. Blayne Mackey for their dedication and commitment to reducing their carbon footprints.  In 2010, the company Steward Bags as well as the Raisin Region Conservation Authority were recognized for their outstanding efforts.

“Celebrating the work of local champions has become a tradition with the CCRI,” said CCRI Chair Brenda Wilson.  “There are so many people in our region doing amazing work, and it’s an honour to showcase that work to the rest of our community.”

Founded in 2006, the CCRI is a grassroots organization dedicated to providing outreach and education activities about climate change and greenhouse gas reduction.  Through an approach tailored to our community, the CCRI promotes long-term behavioural change and directs measurable actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Cornwall’s residential, commercial, and institutional sectors.

To nominate someone or for more information, call 613.932.2088 or email the CCRI at info@cornwallcarbonreduction.ca.  Nominations must be received by Friday, February 18, 2011.  If you’d like to learn more about the CCRI’s activities, please visit www.cornwallcarbonreduction.ca.
