Martintown United Church Celtic Advent Eventide – December 4, 2010 – Story and photos by Reg Coffey

Martintown ON – December 4, 2010, St. Andrews United Church in Martintown held an evening concert to celebrate a Celtic Christmas.
This church and the surrounding community can trace its routes all the way back to village of Martintown in the Scottish Highlands in 1745 as displaced followers of Bonnie Prince Charlie after their failed attempt to place him on the British throne. The full story of the church and area can be seen at http://www.standrewsunited.org/node/1.
By 7 PM the pews in this historic church were filled with people from all faiths in the area there to listen to the carols and uplifting music performed by the church choir as well as guest performers.  The event featured Harpist Ian Hepburn, fiddler Ashely MacLeod, and soloist Luane Doyle.  As usual at this church, coffee and homemade goodies were served at the end of the event and neighborours gathered to talk about local news.
