Cornwall Transit 15th Annual Safe Driver/Safe Worker Award Breakfast – December 15, 2010 – Cornwall Ontario

Cornwall ON – Cornwall Transit Operations and Maintenance employees will be honoured during a breakfast ceremony on  Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at 5:30 am to 9:00 am at the Cornwall Transit building at 863 Second Street West.

Len Tapp, Division Manager of Cornwall Transit along with Mayor Bob Kilger, CAO Paul Fitzpatrick and Municipal Works and Infrastructure Manager, Norm Levac will be presenting certificates and pins to employees with long service, safe driving and safe working records.

“We want to recognize the level of professionalism Cornwall Transit staff has shown while performing their daily duties” said Len Tapp, Cornwall Transit Division Manager.  “The safety of our riders is very important to us and the enviable safe driving record of our employees reflects that this is something drivers take to heart.”  An average operator drives over 37,000 kilometres a year, more than twice the amount of kilometres an average person drives per year.  10 of the 29 full time drivers have twenty or more accident-free years.

The criteria used by Cornwall Transit, to administer its safe driving program, complies with the standards established by the Ontario Safety League and the Canadian Urban Transit Association.
