Cornwall ON – Here is your police blotter and an Ice Safety message for Cornwall and the area supplied by the Cornwall Ontario Police and local OPP offices for Monday December 13, 2010.

The O.P.P. S.A.V.E. Team would like to remind everyone that even though there is ice on area lakes and rivers and it may look good, BEWARE !

NO ICE IS WITHOUT SOME RISK!

  • Ice Fishing, walking, and cross country skiing, all require at least 4”(10cm) of New Clear Hard Ice.(for one person)
  • One snowmobile or One all-terrain vehicle, requires

at least 5”(12cm) of New Clear Hard Ice.(for one person)

  • One vehicle, car or small pick-up, all require,

at least 8” to 12”(20-30cm) of New Clear Hard Ice.

  • One vehicle, medium truck, requires,

at least 12” to 15”(30-38cm) of New Clear Hard Ice.

Always, check the ice in several places before traveling onto it. Wear a FLOATATION SUIT, and carry, ICE PICKS. If you go onto the ice be prepared to get wet and get yourself out. Don’t endanger your life or the life of someone else!

BREACH

Cornwall, ON- Kenneth Garlow, 49 of Cornwall was arrested on the 11th of December 2010. He was bound by a Probation Order with the relevant conditions to be in a public place if you have consumed alcohol and to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. He was also bound by an Officer in Charge Undertaking with the relevant conditions of not to be outside of your residence after having consumed alcohol and to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. It is alleged that on the 11th of December 2010, he was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage while in a public place. He was arrested and charged with two counts of Breach of Probation and two counts of breach of Officer in Charge Undertaking. He was later released to appear in court on the 6th of January 2011.

THEFT & BREACH

Cornwall, ON- Jerry MARTIN, 33 of Cornwall was arrested on the 11th of December 2010. He was bound by an Officer in Charge Undertaking and a Probation Order with the relevant condition to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. It is alleged that on the 11th of December 2010, he attended a Water Street store and committed theft. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that he allegedly committed theft on the 6th of December 2010 at a Second Street store. He was charged with two counts of Theft under $5000.00, breach of an Officer in Charge Undertaking and Breach of Probation Order. He was held in custody until court the following day.

DOMESTIC MISCHIEF

Cornwall, ON- A 68 year-old Cornwall male was arrested on the 11th of December 2010. It is alleged that he entered in an altercation with his 68 year-old girlfriend when he caused mischief to her property. Police were contacted and an investigation followed. He was charged with mischief and released to appear in court on the 11th of January 2011. His name is not being released as it may identify the victim in this incident.

DOMESTIC ASSAULT

Cornwall, ON- A 31 year-old Montreal male was arrest on the 12th of December 2010. It is alleged that shortly after 3:00 a.m., the male engaged in a physical altercation with his 33 year-old. Police were contacted and investigation followed. The male was charged with Domestic Assault and was held in custody until court the following day. His name is not being released as it may identify the victim in this incident.

THEFT

Cornwall, ON- Emily Beaulieu, 37 of Cornwall was arrested on the 12th of December 2010. It is alleged that on the 12th of December 2010, she attended a Second Street store and committed theft. Police were contacted and she was charged with Theft under $5000.00. She was released to appear in court on the 6th of January, 2011.

CHARGES LAID

(South Stormont) – On 11Dec10, at approximately 10:00pm, SD&G OPP members stopped a vehicle at a R.I.D.E check on Myres Road, South Stormont Township.

The stop revealed that the 43yr old male driver (Timothy LALONDE of South Stormont) was operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

He was arrested and faces a charge of:

  • Exceed 80mgs / Motor Vehicle

He is scheduled to appear 30Dec10 in Cornwall court.

(North Stormont) – On 10Dec10, at approximately 9:30pm, SD&G OPP officers had occasion to conduct a traffic stop on County Road 15, North Stormont Township.

The stop revealed that the 37yr old male driver (Saengkeo RATTANAVONG of North Stormont) was operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

He was arrested and faces charges of:

  • Impaired Operation / Motor Vehicle
  • Exceed 80mgs / Motor Vehicle

He is scheduled to appear 04Jan2011 in Cornwall court.

ASSAULT
(South Stormont) – On 10Dec10, at approximately 11:30pm, SD&G OPP officers responded to a report of an assault on St. Lawrence St. Ingleside On.

The investigation revealed that a 45yr old male (Charles Roy COLLINS of Ingleside, On) struck a 26yr old male that was visiting the residence. The male suffered facial injuries and was transported to Cornwall Community Hospital.

The 45yr old male attended the Long Sault OPP detachment on the 12Dec10 where he was arrested and released.

He faces a charge of:

  • Assault Cause Bodily Harm.

He is scheduled to appear 15Feb11 in Cornwall court.
