Cornwall Ontario is Mr. Roger’s Neighbourhood – Chris Rogers Appointed Chief Building Officer – December 20, 2010

Cornwall ON – Paul Fitzpatrick, Chief Administrative Officer announced today the appointment of Chris Rogers as the Chief Building Official for the City of Cornwall, effective immediately.

Mr. Chris Rogers has been Acting CBO with the City of Cornwall since May 2010, and was previously Deputy CBO/Senior Building Inspector since 2006.

He has also held the positions of Plans Examiner (2004-2006), Building Inspector (2004) and Zoning /Site Plan Coordinator (1997-2004).

Prior to joining the City of Cornwall, he held positions in the private sector with architectural firms in Ottawa and Toronto.

“This position is an important position within the City as it deals with the efficient processing of building permit applications, and accordingly the City conducted a thorough search for qualified candidates,” said Paul Fitzpatrick.  “Mr. Rogers has extensive experience with the Ontario Building Code and in working with the local community.”

“I look forward to continuing the entire department’s efforts to see a balance between the protective legislative elements of the Ontario Building Code and the needs of the development community to get project approvals in a timely manner,” said Chris Rogers.  “We are currently implementing a number of positive changes that will result in a more streamlined application process.”

“I believe that it is important that the lines of communication are open between our office and the community,” added Mr. Rogers.  “I look forward to working with the new Building Industry Liaison and Advisory Committee as well as local business organizations such as the Seaway Valley Construction and Trades Association and the Cornwall and Area Chamber of Commerce.”

In addition to the role of Chief Building Official, Mr. Rogers also assumes the position of Supervisor of By-Law Enforcement with the City’s Planning, Parks and Recreation Services Department.

About The Chief Building Official (CBO) Position
The Chief Building Official manages and is responsible for the enforcement of the Ontario Building Code Act and Regulations, developing, formulating and analyzing as well as writing and amending By-laws with regards to business licensing, property standards, fencing and building By-laws.
