Habs Lose to Colorado 3-2, Sens Lose 3-2 to Washington NHL Scores – December 20, 2010 – Cornwall Ontario

Cornwall ON – The Habs fell to the Avalanche 3-2 Sunday night.   It was….an odd game for Montreal and the stats don’t tell a lot.  It shows that Scott Gomez recorded a point in  game and took 5 shots, but that fellow wingers Max Pacioretty and Brian Gionta were shut down.

PK Subban needs a shot of courage.   He’s not his old PK self and no matter how flashy he looks on the ice he needs to put points up to make it all count.   The three day break and having to play with Alex Picard to force him to mind the pen may help him in the long term, but for now I think it’s impacting his confidence.

Montreal’s two goals came on the power play.   That’s a good thing, but Montreal needs to keep winning.

It was a night for one goal losses.  Ottawa fell to Washington 3-2 as well giving up all 3 goals in the 2nd period.   Jason Spezza having 6+ minutes of PP time with zero points says it all and Alex “Big Dawg” Kovalev has had his ice time get cut as the team looks for a new home for this mutt.

Bottom line for Ottawa is that this is not a Stanley Cup contending team.  It’s a bit slow in the talent area with depth issues, especially on D and mid level at best goal tending.

Also, most of the major talent is in older players.    A real good blow up is due.   If you look at what Philly did a few years ago you can see how fast it can be done, although that was before the Cap era.    That being said Chris Campoli and Mr. Kuba are not going to win it for you on defense and the Alfredsson, Kovalev, and Gonchar situation isn’t good without some young guns to make it happen.

Chicago edged LA 3-2, and Dallas beat Detroit 4-3 in OT in Detroit.   Brendan Morrow had two goals in the win.
