FESTIVE RIDE CAMPAIGN – RESULTS UPDATE

South Stormont Ontario – With the Festive RIDE Campaign in full swing in SD&G, the following are results thus far from efforts put forth by officers throughout the United Counties;

Vehicles checked at RIDE checkpoints – 6132
Drivers charged with Impaired Driving – 3
3 Day Driver’s License Suspensions – 3
Other related charges (HTA, LLA…etc) – 56

With Christmas and New Years fast approaching, SD&G OPP again remind all motorists to drive responsibly and sober. The Campaign continues through January 02, 2011.

INCIDENTS RESULTING IN CHARGES LAID

(North Dundas) – On December 23, 2010, at approximately 6:00pm, SD&G OPP officers responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence on Marionville Road, North Dundas.

Investigation revealed a male had attended the residence requesting assistance in getting his vehicle out of a nearby ditch. While speaking to the residents of the home, he brandished a (pocket) knife and uttered threats to cause bodily harm. Police arrived and arrested the man. Fortunately, no injuries resulted. While enroute to the Detachment for processing, the accused spat towards the officers. Once at Detachment, he urinated on the cell floor.

James FARREN (46) of Metcalfe is charged with;

    • Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
    • Carrying a Concealed Weapon
    • Mischief (2 counts)
    • Utter Threats
    • Fail to Comply with Conditions of a Recognizance (previous incident)

He was held in custody, pending a court appearance (Bail) this date (24Dec10) in Cornwall.

(South Stormont) – On December 24, 2010, at approximately 5:45am, SD&G OPP officers responded to a report of a single motor vehicle in the ditch on Highway 138, South Stormont. Investigation revealed the male driver was under the influence of alcohol and was a novice driver. Officers also seized a small amount of suspected marihuana.

Eber LOPEZ-JOVEL (24) of Ottawa was arrested and is charged with;

    • Possession of a Controlled Substance
    • Fail to Report Accident
    • Novice Driver – Fail to Surrender License
    • Novice Driver – Blood Alcohol Content Above Zero
    • G1 License Driver Holder – Unaccompanied by Qualified Driver

He was also issued a 3 Day License Suspension. He is scheduled to appear in Cornwall court on February 03, 2011 to answer to the charge relating to the drug possession.

THEFT OF ALL-TERRAIN VEHICLE (ATV)

(North Stormont) – On December 24, 2010, SD&G OPP began an investigation into a report of a theft of an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) from a residence on Tolmies Corners Road, North Stormont.

Overnight (23-24Dec10), a 2009 Kawasaki KVF750 4×4 Brute Force ATV, green, bearing Ontario plate 04SM2, was removed from the property.

An investigation continues.
