Nothing Beats the Wiz! Wisniewski notches 2 in Habs Win – Lapierre traded to Anaheim – NHL SCORES – January 1, 2011 – Cornwall Ontario

Cornwall ON – Nothing beats the Wiz!   James Wisniewski is making the most of his start with his new team.   From speaking some French with his first meet and greet wit the local barracudas media to notching two goals last night giving Montreal a much needed 3-2 victory over the Florida Panthers  in OT.

Alex Auld got the win for the Habs who started off quite shaky giving up a 2-0 lead before The Wiz and Scott Gomez led the way back.   I am totally liking the idea of Wiesnewksi and Cammalieri on the same team and I think that this little bundle of energy will fit in with the vets in the room.

The team is still feeling the loss of Josh Gorges, but PK Subban and Yannick Weber will now having a chance to really prove themselves and get some prime time minutes.

New Jersey had a 3-1 score which is usual for them of late.  The big difference is that they had the 3 goals as they beat Atlanta.   Nashville had 2 empty net goals in their 4-1 win over Minnesota; the Islanders nipped Detroit 4-3 in OT; Ottawa fell to Columbus 4-3 in OT as well;  Jason Blake notched 2 goals as Anaheim clipped Philly 5-2.   Blake is expected to be moved as the the trade deadline nears.

Vancouver beat Dallas 4-1; Jaroslav Halak and the Blues gave up 3 third period goals, but held off Phoenix 4-3; and Calgary beat Colorado 3-2.

Ryan Getzlaf joins the wounded as he’ll be out indefinitely after taking a puck to face and fracturing some bones.   The Winter Classic takes place today between Pittsburgh and Washington.    This year’s stats don’t make the Ovechkin Crosby match up as exciting, but it should be interesting to watch if it doesn’t get rained out.

Pierre Gauthier must’ve tired of Maxim Lapierre and the forward was shipped to Anaheim for a 5th to replace the one lost in the Wiesnewski trade along with Brett Festerling, a fair to middling D man who’s shipped to Hamilton of the AHL.    David Desharnais was called up to replace Lapierre in the line up and should add a little scoring umph and speed to the Habs.

  1. Lets hope the Habs are back.

  2. I think wiesnewski is the missing link when we lost markov and desharnais should play on the 3rd line with pouliot and eller centering. it will make for a talented and fast 3rd line
