And the Race is on! Mark MacDonald announces as Liberal for Provincial Elections in SD&SG – Who Will you vote for? POLL – January 13, 2011 – Cornwall Ontario

Cornwall ON –It is my intention to seek the nomination as a candidate for the Ontario Liberal Party in the Riding of Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry.

As an active community minded person and being a life long resident of Cornwall, I feel that I have a deep understanding of the current issues.

I believe in an Ontario that is worth fighting for and I believe that under the present leadership we are moving in the right direction.

Our well respected MPP Jim Brownell has a big pair of shoes to fill and the future is bright, the hard work presently being done must continue.”

Those were the words of Mark A MacDonald.  Speaking with the former Cornwall Ontario city councilor and mayoralty candidate minutes ago he said:

“Everything in life is meant to be.  Who knew that Jim Brownell was going to step down.  Politically speaking opportunities like this come once in a life time.”

This follows on the heels of Mayor Jim McDonnell announcing for the Conservatives.   The race is heating up for all of the major parties in this riding.   Mr. Macdonald’s announcement retire the rumblings of him running for the NDP in the October Provincial election.

There are other names about to be dropped too as speculation and power moves take place behind the scenes.  I confirmed recently that South Stormont Deputy Mayor Tammy Hart will not be running in the upcoming Provincial election.   Last summer Ms Hart was considering placing her name in the hat.

Eyes are looking to her Mayor, Bryan McGillis who is rumoured  to be about to announce himself as a candidate; although for which party is also grist for the mills.

Pat Finucan has also been talked about as a Liberal leadership candidate.

As we do here at The Cornwall Free News, we have prepared a pre-election poll.   You can vote for your choice.  Please note that the list will change as candidates declare or announce that they will not run.

  1. I think Mark MacDonald would make a great Liberal MPP.

  2. Thanks to everyone who voted for me in this Poll. I have been removed because I do not have the intentions of running in the upcoming Provincial Elections. I was surprised and honored to have made it to the Number 1 Spot. I promise that you will all see my name on an election Ballot someday soon.
