Update on Patrick Daoust – Snowmobile Found – No Ice is Safe Ice Warning – January 26, 2011

Akwesasne Mohawk Territory – On Sunday, January 23rd, the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service received a report of a missing snowmobiler. Patrick Daoust, 26 years of age of St. Anicet, Quebec was believed to be sledding on the ice in the Hopkins Point, Quebec area the evening before and had not returned home.

The Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service and the Hogansburg Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department searched the area for the missing man. The Surete du Quebec provided assistance with their Dive Team.

The snowmobile believed to have been operated by Daoust was located in the water. Due to the very swift current under the ice, onJanuary 25th, the search was discontinued by the SQ Dive Team. The investigation into the incident continues.

The Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service and the Hogansburg Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department would like to remind residents that “no ice is safe ice”.
