Karen has a new movie coming out too, Maria My Love,  that opens at the Tribeca Film Fest in NY, but I’ll let her share on this:

I’m SO happy to be able to announce that a film that I did last year is having its WORLD PREMIERE on April 22nd at the TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL! It was directed by an absolutely amazing young director, Jasmine McGlade Chazelle.

It’s a wonderful story about a young girl, played so beautifully by Judy Marte (Raising Victor Vargas)
who, in attempting to handle her own unexpressed grief over her mother’s death decides that to help another will be the solvent for her painful emotional mix. I’m the woman she helps. Little does she know, at first meeting, that I’m a hoarder. Defensive! A garbage collecting kind of gal!

The shoot was done last June during the time I was doing Henry Jaglom’s play, “Just 45 Minutes from Broadway” and i didn’t see how I was ever going to be able to do both at the same time. But Jasmine’s directing was so conceptual, rather than pragmatic. For example, she liked the lines the way we would say them, not the way she wrote them. She liked the scenes shot (by two cameras constantly) in a kind of continuous way, so that we might, Judy and I, walk, still talking, from one scene into the next even if it was not scheduled for that day – say from the living room into the kitchen. So it was not time conflictual as I had imagined but was a great joy and a learning experience.

WHEN ONE DOES INDEPENDENT FEATURE WORK, AS I DO, THERE IS JUST NO BETTER THRILL than having a major role in an absolutely remarkable work that premieres at ONE OF THE WORLD’S MOST PRESTIGIOUS FESTIVALS: TRIBECA.

I am so blessed.

Love and best,
KAREN
