Bruins Beat Up Lightning in Game 7 as Whistles put away – 1-0 Shut Out for Tim Thomas – May 28, 2011

Cornwall ON – As much as I dislike the Boston Bruins and what they have stood for I have a lot of heart for Tim Thomas who notched a game 7 shut out in what was typical Bruins hockey.

With the refs putting away the whistles the Lightning never had a chance and Boston jumped out early with a seismic hit on Martin St. Louis which established the tempo.

Boston attacked and kept attacking out shooting Tampa 38-24, but the Bruins hit early and hit often including Boychuk hitting Steve Stamkos with a slapper which broke Stamkos’ nose.

Dwayne Roloson put on a show.  When Habs cast off Marc-Andre Bergeron logs almost 20 minutes of ice time a goalie has to be on their best.

Stamkos, St. Louis, and Lecavlier were held to 4 shots on goal for the night.

The Stanley Cup final starts Wednesday.    And as much as I hate to say it, if I were a betting man I’d put my money on the Bruins.   At least Don Cherry will have a lot to talk about during the finals!

It should be an interesting series.   Vancouver is a better team than Tampa so they have a fighting chance.  It will come down to grit and toughness and whether the officials actually enforce the rules or put their whistles away like they did in game 7.
