Eastern Ontario Health Unit adds Two New Public Health Nursing Positions – May 31, 2011

Cornwall ON – Ontario is creating two new public health nursing positions in the Eastern Ontario Health Unit.  The new nurses will help the Eastern Ontario Health Unit to better deliver targeted services to priority populations in the community.

.

Using a broad range of skills, such as counselling, teaching, advocacy and community development, the nurses will focus on providing support to low income families, single parents and their children.

.

The Eastern Ontario Health Unit promotes and protects the health and wellness of the community by preventing diseases and injuries, and  by advocating for a safe and healthy environment through strategic partnerships.

It offers public health services to residents of the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry and Prescott-Russell, and the City of Cornwall. Today’s announcement is part of the government’s Open Ontario Plan to provide more access to health services while improving quality and accountability for Ontarians.

“The new nursing positions will enhance the ability of the Eastern Ontario Health Unit to continue delivering vital health and wellness programming to our community.” – Jim Brownell, MPP for Stormont – Dundas – South Glengarry

Dr. Paul Roumeliotis, Medical Officer of Health had the following to say:

“Given the challenging determinants of health in our area, and their harmful impact on child health and development, we certainly welcome this additional support.  It will help our young families provide a good start in life for their children, so they can reach their full potential.”
