So are you celebrating Guy Fawkes Night? November 5, 2011

CFN – It’s Guy Fawkes Night – November 5th!     Although connected to religious strife, since the movie V for Vendetta Guy Fawkes Day has become synonymous with political rebellion of many natures.

Go to 420 on Parliament Hill in Canada and you’ll see the masks; and with the various occupy movements his spirit is frequently referred to.

Guy himself didn’t fare too well.   For his role he was hung, drawn and quartered as were several of his associates, but his name has lived on even now over 400 years after the groups failed attempt to change order in England.

After days of torture Fawkes admitted to his deeds and indicted some of his co-conspirators.  He cheated the executioner by jumping from the gallows breaking his neck.

  1. I should be celebrating, but it’s too hard to buy fireworks in Cornwall, and for some reason the city doesn’t seem to like it when you let them off.
    So much for multiculturalism!

  2. And most importantly, as I learned as a child:
“Be pleased to remember the fifth of November
    Of gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason why gunpowder and treason
    Should ever be forgot!”
