Habs Beat Isles 5-3 – Jets Stun Wild – Sens Take it to Sabres – Canucks Clipped – NHL SCORES – December 14, 2011

CFN – A win is a win is a win.   Montreal beat the NY Islanders 5-3.  They made an easy win hard again allowing the Islanders to tie the game at 3 before scoring the go ahead and an empty net goal by Hal Gill!

Coach Martin either can’t or won’t realize that this isn’t a strong defensive team no matter which system they play.   They’re not the worst, but they have gifted and skilled offensive players, and if you’re in the other team’s zone it’s awfully hard to give up goals.

Montreal was out shot in the 3rd period.   With parity and the clump in the middle of the Eastern Conference every game counts.  Every point can mean the difference between making the play offs and doing the early golf stint.   Montreal has got to keep on the gas all three periods to achieve success.

Chris Campoli was back; but Alexei Emelin was out of the line up and Yannick Weber was playing wing again.   I’d rather have Emelin than Campoli any day.   Montreal needs his skill set.   Tomas Kaberle notched another assist.

In other NHL scores Washington continued its decline falling way back in the pack as Philadelphia spanked them 5-1 with the Ovechkin line in the minus.   Boston shut out LA 3-0;   Ottawa beat the Sabres 3-2 in OT in what was an inspired victory with the team out shooting Buffalo in their own barn.   Milan Michalek left the game after colliding with one of his own players.  The often injured star scored his 19th of the season to open the scoring.

It was Tim Connolly night as the Leafs star Free Agent acquisition notched both goals in Toronto’s 2-1 win over a Joel Skinnerless Hurricanes squad.    Kirk Muller cannot be having much fun with this crew!   Dallas shut out the Rangers 1-0; Detroit 4 – Penguins 1; Columbus clipped Vancouver 2-1; New Jersey edged Florida 3-2; Nashville nipped Calgary 2-1 in spite of Jarome Inginla’s 8 shots on goal; Colorado 4-3 over San Jose and in a huge surprise game of the night and a great win for Hockey bettors; Winnipeg beat Western Conference leading Minnesota 2-1.   The Jets have overcome an early season malaise and are now back in the thick of the play off race.
