SLC Cornwall Sharks women’s hockey team wins gold – again! by Stephen Petrick – February 13, 2012

CFN – For the second tournament in a row, the St. Lawrence College Cornwall Sharks women’s hockey team has won gold.

The Sharks shook off an opening-game shootout loss and went on to win four straight at the Conestoga College Invitational tournament in Kitchener, Ont. on Friday, Feb. 10.

The tournament victory follows their gold-medal performance at the Brantford Laurier Invitational tournament, Jan. 20.

The last game of the Conestoga tournament was a 3-0 win over Wilfrid Laurier in the championship. Amber Lapierre picked up a shutout in goal and the Sharks received goals by Emily Kinstler, Brooke Marion and Jenay Morin to win the game.

To reach the final, the Sharks staged a remarkable comeback in the semifinal game against host Conestoga. While trailing 1-0, Kinstler scored with just 24 seconds remaining in the third period. The Sharks then went on to win the game 2-1 in a shootout, with Brooke Marion scoring the shootout winner.

Another hero of the tournament was Lapierre. She played goal in all five games and only allowed one goal in regulation time. She was also spectacular in shootouts, stopping seven of eight shooters.

The Sharks now have an overall record of 10-1-1 in the 2011-2012 season.
