Cornwall Ontario Barricade Perp Charged After Long Stand Off – June 14, 2012

BARRICADED PERSON IN CUSTODY & CHARGED

 

            Cornwall, ON- The Cornwall Community Police Service successfully concluded a barricaded person investigation following a ten and a half hour stand-off. Police had cordoned off a section of the City as a result of an incident that took place in the area of the 800 Bedford Street. Police attended shortly after 2:00 a.m. on June 13th, 2012 with regards to a Domestic disturbance which resulted in a barricaded person. The Cornwall Community Police Service Emergency Response Team and Negotiators attended the scene. Following several hours of negotiations. Police breached the residence and the man was taken into custody without incident.

 

The 43-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on June 13th, 2012. He was bound by a Probation Order with the conditions of Keep the Peace and be of Good Behaviour, no alcohol and not to have contact with his 37-year-old common-law wife if he has consumed alcohol. It is alleged that on May 18th, 2012 he got into an altercation with his common-law wife and assaulted her. It was also alleged that on June 13th, 2012, he had assaulted his common-law wife and caused damaged to the residence while intoxicated. The victim did not require medical treatment. Police were contacted and he was charged with 2 counts of Domestic Assault, Domestic Mischief and 6 counts of Breach of Probation Order. He was held in custody until court the following day. The male’s name was not be released as it may identify the victim in this incident.
