Pauline Marois Gets All Linguistically Fascist – Tougher Quebec Language Laws If PQ Elected Within 100 Days!

Copyright © 2012 KAV Productions Inc.

CFN – PQ leader Pauline Marois bared her linguistic teeth promising voters that she’d visit Bill 101, the language law in Quebec, within 100 days of being elected.

LINK

Marois says the province’s landmark language law, Bill 101, needs to be updated to stop the decline of French in Montreal shops and businesses.

Marois says she would introduce legislation within her first 100 days in office that would close loopholes that make it possible for companies to operate in English.

She also plans to increase the number of language inspectors to monitor the presence of French on commercial signs.

Could you imagine if a politician in Alberta stated that reversing French for English?   Ms Marois certainly is staking her ground…

What do you think Quebecers and Canadians?  Is she completely out to lunch?  Is Quebec?

For Quebec to potentially or actually vote in a benign fascist like Ms Marois and her PQ cohorts would be a huge statement for Quebec via its position in Canada…

  1. Not to worry……she won’t win!!!

  2. She is a fascist dog peeing on her territory. She is sure not trying for English Quebec votes!!!

  3. Quebec already has restrictive French Language sign laws. If there were to be bilingual signs in Quebec, I for one, would probably drive to Montreal and perhaps further afield. But I won’t. I can only imagine how much tourism has been hurt by the sign laws, and making them more strict will not help anyone.

    I even heard of a Quebec Maple-Syrup Producer that had to take down his English-only website, despite the fact that 99% of his sales were from the northern American states. Too much power is seldom a good thing.

  4. Does anybody realize that there is a lot of similarities with this
    And 1930’s germany ?
    It’s facism clearly if you don’t speak French well…….?
    This is truly discusting and it is happening right here in Canada !
    Is this a Canadian value ?
    I am thuraly discusted to be Canadian!!!
    I suddenly feel the need to take a shower.

    Yuk

  5. Well, she is the absolute Master of Hypocrisy isn’t’ she? Wasn’t it just yesterday that she asked for the English vote in Quebec, in ENGLISH…no less?

    Her and her ilk aren’t welcomed, in Canada. Neither are their discriminatory policies and agendas!

    But, if she wins…then let’s vote them and theirs, OUT !!! Maybe, third time will be the charm:))))

  6. The PQ -the new neo natzi and Quebecers are happy with that?
    When do the blue shirts (Brown shirts) start enforcing those ethnocentric values?
    Quebec English Run while you can!!!
    Stella,patrick and touchez still think Quebec treats its minorities better then the rest of Canada?
    Dilusional you are!
    I still so humiliated to be Canadian how many internationally are watching?

  7. OMG ! – she is definitely out to lunch . . .

  8. Hey concerned..if you are so disgusted and ashamed to be canadian…..maybe you should move to another country….thinking you would like Iraq or maybe Syria……where they fight their own

    MAROIS won’t get in…..got that?? Find someone else to degrade and bash……pathetic……LMAO!!!

  9. Don’t blame Pauline Marois!!

    She is a politician and there are millions who will vote for her and that party! She is only reflecting the values of her supporters.

    Let Quebec be gone……..it cost us too much in 1995 to keep the province in Confederation.

    Not so sure now my Canada includes Quebec.

    Let’s support Pauline Marois! May she be the first Prime Minister of the sovereign nation of Quebec! No worries Quebecers. Rough ride at first but things will get better. It’s only growing pains.

  10. If this wacko wins, I’m not sure that there is anything left that Quebec could do to the Anglophones there, short of be-heading thiem! Go ahead Quebec and elect her……can’t wait to see how well that would go over with the rest of Canada….you may just get your wish!!!!!

  11. Government MUST stay out of the language issue. This woman is dangerous as well as a facist. She has little right to be a Canadian citizen let alone running for a parliamentary job. If. god help us she wins even her own seat, she will not be fighting for Canada but for hpocritical Quebecers.
    Try that in Ontario…Anglo with ho French….unless you are a Sik(?), Hindo or Muslim, you will not be able to get away without speaking French in our own province. Go Figure.

  12. What I just don’t get is why Anglos are whining about that. Language policies are used all around the world. Do they have bilingual signs in France just to accommodate English-speakers?

    Seriously, Pauline Marois doesn’t want you to let go of your language and speak French only. Nobody’s forcing you to speak French everywhere. But please, be humble enough not to think everybody in the world has to speak English just to accommodate you.

    Quebec is French. Get over it and learn French, at least a bit. Not that hard.

  13. Author

    Xavier what if that’s reversed? What if Montreal decided to separate from Quebec? What if Montreal decided to be bilingual? What if the rest of Canada decided to be English?

    Does your logic, which I’m not disagreeing per se, cut both ways?

  14. Admin ,

    Thanks for proposing that question .
    The issue is not language, but the politics of language.

  15. Because of the french vote in Québec and because the english vote is centralized, pauline is on her way to becoming the first elected female Québec premier. Is it what I want, nope, but Pauline Marois is far from being a stupid person. She has been in politics for decades, she wont even dare try and go for a referendum. At 28 %, the sovereignty vote is very low.

    Jaimie the one time you were part of a minority in Québec you left. Although the pure laine attitude is frustrating, most Québecers are good people. You would chose to let the french language die while I would rather do anything I could to save it. Its part of our history, our culture, french is as much canadian as english.

    Being unilingual anglo is not a sin. Jaimie you chose to be unilingual in a province that has more bilingual people then the rest of the country. And now you try and portray yourself a martyr. I agree with you though, its not up to you or any other anglo to save the french language… cause like some other anglos you would let the language die. Out of laziness, stubbornness, I wouldn’t know. But to actually encourage others to think like you, with all do respect, your as much a martyr as bill gates.

  16. The situation can’t be reversed jaime. The english language is in no threat of being exterminated. Even in Québec the french language is declining. Now I know your thoughts on the french language. If The french language was a person, and drowning, you’d ask the person to save himself. Or, you would actually change locations because the drowning person would yell out ¨À l’aide!! instead of Help!¨

  17. Author

    Patrick I do consider myself a martyr. What you don’t get is that Montreal is by far the largest community in Quebec and its heritage has a whole lot of English in it. So much so that in spite of 40 years of linguistic and cultural genocide you yourself worry about Montreal becoming Anglophone as though that were a sin or crime.

    I chose to leave for many reason; mostly related to the politics and language of Quebec. Some people pick up languages better than others. I’m not gifted that way and frankly feel like I’m working under a handicap when forced to do so in French.

    Also as an artist in Quebec you get treated differently when it comes to government grants that should be equal to all artists, French and English.

    My last departure from Quebec was in 2004 when I moved to Cornwall as the woman I would eventually marry was a unilingual anglophone from BC and wanted nothing to do with Quebec.

    Most Quebecers are good people, but good people have this habit of staying silent while bad people operate. It’s not unique to Quebec either. I don’t encourage anyone to think like me. I put ideas out for conversation. I would encourage people to research any concept they feel is important and come to their own conclusions.

    Sadly most that actually will post about a subject rarely have an open mind about it which leads to some of these circular arguments that rarely ever get resolved….

  18. Author

    Patrick you’re being silly…

  19. …nope, because of a few bad experiences, you dislike the french language. You paint french people with the same brush, I’d rather keep an open mind and look at the person first.

  20. So Patrick if bill 101 alright in Quebec ? Would it bill alright to have an english bill 101 in Ontario? Should not both solitutes be treated equally?

  21. Author

    Patrick I do not “dislike” the French language or French people. I simply am not gifted with it and feel like I’m at a handicap when I have to use it for work. Do you really want to play games like that? I should hope not. You’ve been treated with respect as a viewer and poster by CFN. I would hope that simple politeness would necessitate that back.

    I’m not some Costco employee 😉

  22. Highlander, Sure, I’d be all for it. Make all the signs bilingual, put the english version on top three times larger, just as long as you see it in french. Guarantee schools in french to french speaking individuals… But then again, why would you need an english bill 101, when the english language is No way being threatened at a 77 percent % majority.

    Your feeling insulted, Why ? I haven’t insulted you. YOu have said that you left the province because of language. You have said you refused to learn french, this is the first time I hear the you aren’t gifted in language. I think your smart enough to have learned it. To you, I think It came down to a question of choice. Again its not a sin.

    I do appreciate the courtesy given to me by CFN. Different points of views, and sometimes I agree, sometimes I don’t. I don’t shy away from expressing my opinion when I can. Your not a Costco employee, LOL, come on you agreed with me on that issue. Don’t you agree that if an employee is rude to a customer, a reprimand is in order. I have always said, I don’t know if I got that person fired. But the next week or two after, she was no longer working there. Coincidence, maybe ?

    Now being bilingual I have an advantage on certain situations. I grew up with both languages and I continue to use them frequently. I love both cultures and immerse myself in both almost equally, well almost. I should encourage more french movies, but I still would rather watch expendables 2 then, la vie en rose. That being said I think we should invest more on language and culture. Not doing everything you can to save one of the founding languages in our great country, is simply allowing Canada to become the 51st state.
    Jaime, I have no ill will towards you. I just think you might just be misguided. But then again I have been wrong before, once or twice. LOL . I’m going to be 27 next week, and I have been wrong more then 27 times in the last hour…

  23. Author

    Patrick at the end of the day it all comes down to the rules of the game. Right now the rules need to be changed and to be more fair to everyone; especially when it comes to jobs outside of Quebec.

  24. Re: Xavier September 3, 2012 at 3:26 pm POST

    Wait just a second there Xavier. You are comparing apples and oranges. Quebec my friend — IS NOT — a country and you have no right to compare the linguistic issues (re: signs and flags and so on) to a country as you did using France as an example. Provinces are just that, provinces and you must remember that the constitution applies to ALL of CANADA’S provinces, not just those provinces who choose to recognize it. It doesn’t work that way.
    So, your argument is misguided when you compare the “province” of Quebec to a country. Further more; they SHOULD not be acting as a country until that becomes a reality. As far as that as possibility, as things stand right now, with their disrespect for the English people living there and for Canada in general, I for one sure hope that does become a reality.
    Do you “get it” now?

    Go P. Marois Go…

    Oh AND…. You said, “Pauline Marois doesn’t want you to let go of your language and speak French only. Nobody’s forcing you to speak French everywhere.”
    Uhmmm sure, you don’t have to speak French but, under her rules it would be extremely difficult not to speak French and yet still have a life in that “province” don’t you think? So, it’s the same ball of wax.

  25. @ stellabystarlight RE:August 12, 2012 at 5:52 pm POST

    Stella said, “Hey concerned.. if you are so disgusted and ashamed to be Canadian…..maybe you should move to another country…”
    Enough telling the English to move. We did that when you guys took over Quebec. And now, we’ve had enough of that idea of moving so you could then move in and take over.
    We aren’t going anywhere THIS TIME the ROC is NOT MOVING … We’re gonna stand and fight this time.
    PS: At least be respectful enough to capitalize Canada eh. I corrected it for you this time. Even though I always put the “province” of Quebec in quotes I have enough respect to capitalize the province name.

  26. ” I have always said, I don’t know if I got that person fired. But the next week or two after, she was no longer working there. Coincidence, maybe ?”

    Do you ever tell the story the same way twice? Yesterday she was fired and you were glad of it!! And now we’re back to maybe. Make up my mind!

    ~~~~~~~~
    “That being said I think we should invest more on language and culture. Not doing everything you can to save one of the founding languages in our great country, is simply allowing Canada to become the 51st state.”
    Why is french more important than Mohawk? Where is the money
    to invest in the founding language? Oh that’s right, there is none. But there is plenty for you and yours, right?
  27. Xavier you say “Get over it and learn French, at least a bit. Not that hard.” Well Xavier been there, done that, but guess what not good enough. This is what you don’t get…Your French and speak a little English okay, you are considered bilingual…but your English and speak a little French, you are not considered bilingual, you are told to get to the back of the bus until you learn French at the advanced level.
  28. Hey Stella, she is leading in the polls, Got that.?
  29. Xavier…..bien dit!!! It’s the service and the product that attracts customers. Who the h@ll cares what language the sign is written in?
    yorlik….you keep fighting…….thinking you are from winning the battle.
    As for you saying “it would be extremely difficult not to speak french and yet still have a life in that province” This is Ontario, we don’t care about the jobs in Quebec.
    geez nothing insulting here moderator….poor Daddies little boy he cant help but be a R*C*S* he knows no different ,remember its family that teaches you these behaviors ……and well apple does not fall far from the tree!
  31. Bella, Quote me ? Where did I say I got her fired ? NO Where ? I said that she was no longer working there. Well, gotta get ready for my morning 10 mile run. ( You see bella, now that is a good lie)
  32. What is frustrating is that there is an organization out there that promotes anti-french behavior. That by naming itself language fairness, it says it promotes fair hiring practices. Well what is in a name:
    1) Its leader says she is bilingual but choses not to speak french.
    2) Her right hand man is a self professed francophobe.
    3) They even say that its a question of costs when the true cost is less then 1 % of the national budget.
    – So before complaining about pauline marois, mme trudeau, mr galgarnov and others should look in the mirror and agree, that what there doing is a colossal waste of time….the english language is in much danger as bill gates is at running out of money.
  33. I’ll get back to you in a bit on the quote, but while you wait Patrick, why don’t you address this part of the post? After your run of course! pshaw!
    “Went to Ottawa a few weeks back, shopped at Costco. Its a private enterprise, I know. I did ask in french for some help and the girl replied. ¨why don’t you speak english, we are in Ontario¨. I was insulted. Thank god other employees were there and at their suggestion they said I should complain to her superior. And I did. Her superior immediately switched her section and apologized her behalf. Went back yesterday, she no longer is an employee. Merci Costco.”
    But then after it was pointed out that you were indeed too proud about the fact you had someone fired because of your own whims you had to back track.
    “Maybe I did not explain it properly…she did not get fired because she couldnt speak french. I re read my post and I did not write that. And, I didnt say it was because of me, maybe my complaint was the tip of the iceberg….or maybe she just plain quit. I dont know.
    One thing i’ll correct myself on is I don’t know if she was fired. I may have given the wrong impression. …but if they did fire her… I agree admin…it was because of her being rude to customers…then again. I didnt check to make sure. When i returned the week after, I did ask the employee i talked and he confirmed that she was no longer an employee…”
    Hope you enjoyed you run!
    And, for all of you (the Bouchers, the Stella’s and the Blue Birds, etc) on “that side” this is typical of how your side treats people who stand up to you. You threaten and use violence. That’s fine. We have the law on our side and we are growing in numbers. We will NOT be intimated any more. The tide is turning and just wait till you see how pitiful you and your ilk will look once the majority decide we have had enough. Vive le… oops I mean. Go P. Marois Go… 
  36. You might have heard about the department of native affairs ? There is allot being done for natives, language and promotion. Is it enough, NOPE. Should we do more to promote native culture and aboriginal studies, absolutely.
    – I still don’t see a problem with what I wrote bella. …all the quotes you gave, by the way you got allot of time on your hands, they sound very similar.
    – 707 million *from the action plan
    -275 million for education support
    -100 million to improve literacy
    -175 million to renovate schools
    I’m not going to quote everything given in the budget…although the money is for three years…it is still several hundreds of millions of dollars per year.
    Wooo hooo, the wave of discontent is approaching the shore…
  40. @Patrick Boucher RE: Patrick Boucher September 4, 2012 at 2:37 pm POST
    Well, Patrick B. It’s nice to see you can admit SOME things. I commend you for saying that. And, — I guess ? — there are “SOME” on both sides. Uhmmm maybe you can point “some” out for me. That would be appreciated, just so I have the proof. Thanks)
    However, when one looks back historically (FLQ and various other French militant groups) and even in the present time (the student strikes and riots after Montreal Canadians wins etc etc), Quebecors (or should I more accurately say, the French) seem to have MORE of those, what “you” called, “real nutcases” on that side of things. I myself, generally speaking, would be more apt to just label them as radical hot blooded “followers” that attach themselves to a cause with the veracity of a pit bull attaching itself to the babysitters arm or head. There is something in the blood, in the fiber of the French (I know this because, being 50% French, I feel it in my blood as well) that makes one want to stand up and get in the face of someone who opposes something you hold dear. I hesitate to say it but, I admire this about them/myself and kinda would like to see the English grow a set of these cahoonas in order to stand up to the French because, you know what, on some level, I believe (if you take away the threat of cultural annexation as part of this) you might even secretly agree that the way the French are doing things is indeed unfair when one considers the numbers involved.
    After all, can it really be fair that Quebec passes laws to diminish and restrict the English language to the degree they are doing which causes such grief to those English Canadian citizens who actually live in that “province.” A “province” which is still within their own country. The country of CANADA. And all this while at the very same time demanding the ROC accommodate them to the n’th degree outside of Quebec? Not to mention, doing things like opening French ONLY clinics in Ontario (somewhat of a slap in the face when one considers this is something that would NOT even be permitted in the “province” of Quebec at all) without ANYONE honestly shaking their head and saying, now wait just a second here. Something doesn’t compute. Or, as they used to say on Sesame Street. One of these is not like the other, one of these things just doesn’t belong.
    – Mild “no so good” humor, I agree. Sorry Couldn’t resist.
    I know trying to reason this way MAY be fruitless but, then again we are all human and there are times when I don’t agree with something but can still see the injustice within the big picture so, I figure maybe you might have that ability also.
    Maybe the REAL answer is as simple as… Let Quebec have the “Province” of Quebec as their own COUNTRY. Why not? Yes, let em have it. Then simply allow the ROC to go back to a state where it only has to provide French to a certain degree within the Federal government. You know, the way it was originally intended in the first place. The French could then move to Quebec where they would feel completely accepted, and all warm and fuzzy like. Oh, and of course, “welcomed” … PLUS, they would have all the French hospitals and French clinics they could ever want (if they could afford them, that is). Then the English would no longer resent the French and we could move forward as one big happy — “area”. There, problem solved. That was easy eh ?
    Hey, now that P. Marois is in, it’s the opportune time. Isn’t it?
    Let’s all “PUSH” for that NOW. Whaddya say? Sound good?
    All together now Freeeeeeeee Canada… woohooo.
