High Notes – Joseph Boyer Chats with Jeff Brunet About the Port Theatre Concerts – November 11, 2012

CFN – I recently had a chance to speak with Jeff Brunet of Alkaline Entertainment and ask his thoughts on the renewed effort to save the local Port Theatre and the importance of involvement from Cornwall’s younger generations.

.
“It is very important for the youth of Cornwall to recognize it will benefit them in the long-run.” Brunet said.

.
“The Port can give them a chance to showcase their talents, have a venue to come and see live shows other than an age restricted bar and gives them a chance to write about it – just like you’re doing now.”  He added.

It seems Mr. Brunet is going right after the imagination and memories of our youth with the upcoming presentation of the Sharon and Bram family entertainment show. (Nov 24th, 2012. shows at 1pm and 4pm.) Best known for their performances as the trio, Sharon, Lois and Bram, this show will consist of the same style sing-along many have heard through their countless TV specials and the popular Elephant Show.

.
When questioned on what other shows he’d like to see on stage Brunet responded,

“I want to see everything from Hip-Hop to headliners and local bands perform here.”

.

Listening to the passion in which he speaks about it, you can clearly tell that Brunet wants this venue to serve the community for years to come. Not only as a place for musicians and performers but as a topic of conversation for the community.

.

“We’re going to give a balanced line-up of shows that will appeal to all ages and tastes.” He continued.

.

Working with local community initiative, Citizens for the Port there has been much progress with the physical revitalization of the building. A new roof has been installed, painting of the interior has been done and minor patch work has begun as well. There’s a lot more to be done however to bring this historic site back to its former glory. A new stage, better power supply and dressing rooms are on the wish-list.

.
Using social networks such as Facebook and YouTube have been an important part of the non-physical aspects of getting the message out there. Community involvement is a large part of what this project is all about. I asked Mr. Brunet if he felt that the local media was giving the Port enough coverage.

.

“The sponsors have been great but I’d like to see someone come down to the shows, do a review, tell the public about how it was.”  – A logical request when you’re trying to promote something.

.

So the call goes out to you, the youth of Cornwall. If you want to see bigger shows, better headliners and have a historic venue to play in, I suggest showing your support in one of many different ways. Catch one of the shows, join the group, promote the Port as the classic site that it is – and finally, talk about it.
