Will Montreal Sign PK Subban or Trade Him? Post your thoughts and comment? January 13, 2013

P._K._SubbanCFN –  One of the biggest questions for Habs fans with the lock out ending is the future of PK Subban.   The Mercurial D man is an enigma.   An immense talent with a huge potential, proven and in the future at a position that such talent is rare.

Does PK want to be a Hab?  Do the Habs want PK as a key of their long term future?  Does he fit in with the BC clique that is led by Carey Price and Josh Gorges?

Is his style of play part of the vision of the new brain trust?   Of course several teams are salivating at the possibility of trading for PK and I’m sure a few are considering an offer sheet for the RFA even knowing that Montreal would match…or would they?

Montreal can afford PK, but do they want to lock in long term high end dollars to number 76?

The Flyers lost out on their D man this Summer.   They have some interesting pieces would kill to have a PK who is way more Flyer material than Hab.  Would the Flyers offer up a Braydon Coburn & Daniel Briere?  Would the Habs bite if they did?  While Coburn is a very different type of D man than Subban he brings a lot to the table and Briere would be a short term boost to the Centre squad and PP who is a gritty Play off performer who um, has a, erm, French last name…

There aren’t too many teams that wouldn’t want a PK Subban, but what would the return be?

What do you think Hockey fans?  You can post your comments below.

  1. Sign him already! PK may have some faws, but he is a winner. He is a playoff guy who can bring home the cup. Don’t let him hoist the cup somewhere else.

  2. let’s focus on signing him ….. at least with Gomez gone that’s free cap space after paying him off. Just focus on signing PK

  3. Montreal Canadians would be some stupid if they let him get away .
This man is a very talented exciting to watch super player .
And I’am not a MTL Canadian fan .

  4. The Fans love him. He’s an exciting player, who can score goals!! HABS need him!!. i think he’s worth 3.5 to 4 million a yr

    Do IT!!!

  5. P.K. Is worth way more than 4 million. I’m beating he’s asking in the 6 million range. Might end up getting 5-6 million in the end. He’s a young d-man that’s got huge upside. I’m an oilers fan by the way! Maybe we should use an offer sheet to sign him. How’d you hab fans like that?!? Haha.

  6. I have been a tricolour fan since the late 50s I will have to follow PKU and so will a lot of avid Mtl fans. Why don’t the management ask Carey if he would rather have pk protecting him or raising the Stanley cup with little brother in Boston. They may be interested.

  7. Just sign him for Pete’s sake. The 1st game is in a few days and he will be in no shape to play if he hasn’t worked out with the team!! Let’s not get greedy PK. You were paid 875K last year and proved you’re worth more but don’t price yourself out of the game!

  9. He isn’t worth more than 3.5 to 4 million a year. 7 M for 2 years or 20 M for 5. Otherwise trade him, Philly would love him and I’d take Couturier and a defence prospect or a 2nd or 3rd round pick. I really like Subban, but I don’t want to mortgage the future for him.

    Thoughts?

The Habs don’t need any defense prospects if they dump Subban. They need his 25 minutes per night and I’m not so sure the Flyers would dump Couturier that quickly…

  11. Totally agree with Rick Sanders. Pk is an RFa why is he asking for UFA dollars? That’s a bad sign. How much would he ask for at UFA status? Sign him to a standard bridge contract with home team discount or trade him. I’d love philly to give Couturier or hell maybe Edmonton would give up Yakupov for him and we can rejoin Yakupov and Galchenyuk.
