Local nurses have invited Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario MPP Jim McDonell to learn more about the successes and challenges of practising as a registered nurse (RN) in the province by touring Cornwall Community Hospital on Friday, May
10, as a part of Nursing Week 2013 activities.

McDonell is one of many politicians across the province who is participating in this Nursing Week tradition, which is part of the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario’s (RNAO) 13th annual “Take Your MPP to Work” event. This initiative encourages politicians to shadow nurses in order to better understand the role of nurses in Ontario’s health-care system.

Politicians including McDonell will learn about the responsibilities nurses have in our communities,see how nurses use their knowledge and skills to improve the health of the population, and observe nurses’interactions with patients.
“Nurses have a critical role to play in disease prevention, health promotion and client-centred care,” says Heather Arthur, Vice President of Patient Services and Chief Nursing Officer. “Take Your MPP to Work gives our political leaders a fantastic opportunity to experience and see, firsthand, the high-quality care that our nurses provide on a daily basis. It also helps to enhance their knowledge when it comes to the day-to-day workings of our health-care system.”
CFN also wishes to celebrate nurses who are the backbone of our care system in Canada and throughout the world!
I support the nurses all the way. If anyone was to follow these mighty hard working people around they would have the upmost respect for them. Nursing is one of the hardest jobs out there and most people don’t know about that. There is not enough money that can pay a good nurse or a good doctor – it is more of a calling than a profession – you either have it or you don’t. All the best to all the health care professionals – you are all badly needed everywhere.
I have had the assistance of wonderful, caring, compassionate Doctors and nursing professionals caring for my husband and mother over the past six months in Cornwall, Ottawa and Glengarry. My hats off to each and every one you who provide loving care each and every day. Thank you.

Question Jimbo, did you shadow any “real” nurses, to get a feel of walking in their shoes, as the “Hudat” propaganda put out ? Or was it a quick pic with the exec crowd & out the side door ? How many nursing shoes did ya see ? lol
Wondering if Jim questioned administration about their discriminatory language policies….
Chris Cameron did give Jim a petition with almost 3000 signatures asking for an investigation…
Oh & I agree with left wing, if he is going to see what nurses really do the best advice is stay away from administration;they are clueless to what nurses really do. You might want to leave the suit at home & get a pair of scrubs on, just sayin….
