Near 5.0 Earthquake Hits Eastern Ontario Friday May 17, 2013 at 9:48 AM EST! – Did you feel it? Post your comments below!

CFN – A near 5.0 Earthquake struck Eastern Ontario near Braeside.    Trembles and rumbles were felt as far away as here in Cornwall Ontario where we had the standard UFO sightings.

The quake, measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale hit at 9:48 AM.

We’re awaiting to see if Mayor Bob Kilger hits the panic button and calls a State of Emergency although the last one he called still is apparently in effect as the city has not notified anyone that it’s ended.

We will be reporting on any damage or information as news is updated.

UPDATED

A second quake at the same spot moments later; at 9:53 ten minutes after the first rumble  of 4.2 on the Richter scale!

  1. Yes, I felt it in Port Hope, ON. The computer and house did a “whump” and then it was over. Felt like a bump of turbulence in an airplane.

  2. Earthquake felt here in Wolf Lake, Quebec — the house shook big time… and even the aftershock was big.
I remember the one of 2010, and this one felt bigger and lasted longer.
I actually thought something had exploded.
    Scary.

  3. I live in Toronto and I felt it but it was very minor and it lasted for a few seconds only.

  4. I was sitting in my recliner chair and all of a sudden I began to feel something but didn’t know what was going on. It was very minor, but I did feel something.

  5. I felt it in Ottawa, I am at the end…west end
I felt it twice..felt like a truck going by.

Would anyone have an answer for this.

Why are we having these small earthquakes in the past few years?? I never felt them b4. Why now??

  6. Yes I felt it and heard the glasses clinking in the cabinet. Thought I was going mad as I was half a sleep! Powassan, On (near North Bay)

  7. Felt it in Windsor CT…the building swayed. Strange feeling but exactly like the last couple of ties it happened.

  8. Felt it in Unionville, Ontario, my chair started to shake and the chandelier started tinkeling.

  9. Bugger rolled me out of bed. Literally. (Hammock!) here in Montreal And shook a few books on the shelf. Is it just me or have we been getting a lot more and more -noticeable- quakes since December? I don’t recall many being above a 1 or a light murmur, And I’ve been around awhile.. @.@

  10. I am at work in Southfield, MI and me and a co-worker felt it here. Our chairs were moving slightly and the water in my glass was moving side to side.

  11. Felt it in “Alliston Ontario” Lasted about 15 secs, moderate movement upstairs in house.

  12. I was putting on my jacket this morning to go for my walk with my husband and I thought that it was a truck downstairs. We live in a high rise and we always feel rumblings of trucks when people move in and out or on the main street sometimes. My husband was the one to notice it and he was standing near the balcony door and he said that we were having an earthquake. I sometimes feel small quakes at night and I read that the poles are moving and I heard recently that eventually our North Pole is going to be in Russia. What is also happening and get ready for this folks is “THE NEW MADRID FAULT LINE” and yes you people who live in the east and Midwestern US is in for quite a huge jolt and the Mississippi River will divide the US in two or three parts. This New Madrid Fault Line happened back in the year of 1812 in the southern US and the church bells rang in Boston that is how strong that quake was. Here in Canada we will be affected as well on the St. Lawrence Seaway and here in Ottawa and I don’t know how bad but bad enough. Keep a very close eye on this quake because it is supposed to be a big one when it happens.

  13. felt it here in montreal starting around 945am , rumbling continues for over a minute then another 2-3 minutes until it finally subsided enough and stopped completely, first i thought it was a comun, train passing behind our building but as it had passed already a few minutes before and there was no train sound i figured it was another quake, rumbling and shaking was felt alot deeper than a surface train vibration.

  14. Felt it at about 945 am eastern time. My computer screen was quivering and it felt like someone was moving heavy items in the hall. Very mild. As if a huge truck drove by. lasted maybe 5-10 seconds.. Didn’t know what it was until someone looked it up on the internet.
