CFN – We have a couple of wonderful food events happening this coming week-end in the Cornwall, Ontario area.  We trust all our readers from across the on-line world will take the time to read about these community events as these happenings bring community together to share information about growing and finding wild food sources right in your own background.  Events such as these can easily be incorporated into your family, city or school agenda, providing attendees with the opportunity to find or grow fresh nutritious food in their living space regardless of the location or income level of the food grower.

“The Incredible Edible Plant Festival” will be hosted by Transition Cornwall+  http://transitioncornwall.com/  this Saturday, May 25, 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.  This event includes a vegetable seedling give away, planting demonstrations, musical entertainment, and the viewing of the movie “The Edible City”.  The event will take place outdoors (rain or shine) at 240 Pitt Street, in front of the Justice Building, adjacent to the Cornwall City Hall.  This is an occasion for the general public to receive vegetable plants in pots in which they may spend the summer, with no need to have a garden.  There will be experienced gardeners on hand to help with your gardening questions and challenges. This promises to be a fun filled event for everyone including toddlers to the eldest in your social circle.  Bring your friends and family, pack a picnic lunch and spend the afternoon at this lively spring celebration.  Everyone is welcome!

“The Wild Edibles Walk and Talk” takes place on Sunday, May 26, 1-3:30 p.m. Discover how to find, harvest and prepare some of Eastern Ontario’s finest edible plants with local expert in wild edibles, Peggy Calder, on a walk through Gaudet’s organic farm and tree plantation. Peggy will be sharing her wealth of knowledge as spring brings forth a fresh bounty. Come on out for some fun and learning together.

Event Details:  Comfortable walking or hiking shoes or boots are recommended. Suggested attire will include hats, insect repellent as needed, long sleeves and pants. Bring some water in a reusable bottle. You are welcome to bring a camera (no video camera please) and something to take notes with. Samples can be taken to press between pages for later reference. No dogs, please. This is a highly interactive event so please bring questions.

  1. The best food is what you grow yourself especially organic food. The supermarkets are all full of GMO and if you knew what was in it you would just cringe.
