US Supreme Court Strikes Blow Against Gay Marriage Foes – Now Should we look at the Institution of Marriage? by Jamie Gilcig

jg2CFN – Today’s Supreme Court decision against  California’s Proposition 8 and  the federal Defense of Marriage Act will pave the way to Marriage Equality I think it’s time to ponder the actual state that Marriage is.

Is Marriage a lifelong commitment based on culture, religion and custom or simply a business contract between two parties?  Should it be forever? Should it be monogamous?  Should it have a best before date?  Prenups?  Offspring?  Pets?

I’ve always been a firm believer and supporter in equality; but I see far greater issues over what we consider Marriage to be than who gets to participate.

I personally waited until I was over 40 to marry.   I know that marriage isn’t all about happiness and contentment.  It’s hard work at times.  It’s not fun at times.  It’s about being able to make a choice and sticking to it and the sad reality is that it’s about two people ultimately making life choices that impact each other.

Being divorced after eight years has me jaded and disillusioned about the concept of Marriage, but also asking questions that I think others are asking too.

We live in a world where it’s simply too easy to marry and far too easy to divorce.    What is the point of Marriage if you can break it apart with the quick slash of a pen?

Those cliched vows of “til Death do us part, for sickness and in health, richer or poorer” do they not mean anything?

I used to marvel even at the concept of Marriage.  Imagine one person that fits almost everything in your life including who you like to have sex with?  It’s almost inconceivable; yet we humans have a need to couple.

Maybe once we’ve cleared up this debate about equality we can look at marriage and implications.

Maybe it should be harder to get married or maybe we simply need to redefine our concepts instead of just fattening up divorce lawyers.

In ancient Rome Coligula married his horse. LOL LOL. ROLF! One thing good is that the horse couldn’t talk back unless he gave him a good kick in the “derrière” out the door. LOL LOL. Anyways Rome fell for the horrible morals of the time. The same thing is going to happen again and it never stops. History always repeats itself whether it is from the time of creation till today in the 21st century.

The POINT is just that, History teaches and allows enlightenment. Although, it does not come from “THE BOOK”.
It does come from it’s representatives, the Church and it’s scholars documented actions.

I think you call them “Men of God.” Well guess what jules, men
of god existed 700 years ago and that’s what they decided, not GOD.

The one thing that strikes me as consistent from you, is your
unwavering ability to miss the point…

VIVE Le CANADA and it’s democracy,
    Happy Canada Day.

  3. “Hungry from the truth” Happy Canada Day to you too. Yes we are a democracy so far and let us keep it that way. We are one of the lucky people on the planet now but I don’t know for how long unfortunately.

About the church at one time it was Catholic and during the middle ages the Catholic church did horrible things to people who disagreed with them. It was King Henry VIII and some others who disagreed and came forward and made their own church. The church isn’t God and God is God.

I have been away from the Catholic church and any church for more years than I can say and I don’t need a middle man to be in with God. I have changed so much over the years that I could hardly believe it. I used to be a person who didn’t care about God or anything to do with religion. I have seen so much of the bad that it turned me off completely. I think that I started to change about five years ago and now I truly believe in God and all the good that He stands for. I hate the religious hate that goes around the world and the nonsensical killings and mamings over all of this. People are people to me but others don’t see it that way.

I no longer recognize my Canada since non Christians along with aetheists do not want us to celebrate our Christian holidays and that is so mighty sad. Maybe that is part of why I got to be the way I am today.

I am hearing fireworks from neighbors below celebrating Canada Day. My son is at Parliament Hill. Have a good Canada Day celebration.

Your message dated above was also an excellent one. Much like you, I hope one day we all can discover life’s big and not so big secrets.

    All the best to you.

  5. It is note worthy that our local news sources have nothing on the arrest of Dr. Benjamin Levin. I guess it is to controversial, and one must toll the line of political correctness some times. And yes, the Liberals will fend for themselves, and protect their own.

  6. @ Mr. Newton. This sad story has indeed been reported in the Freeholder and pretty well all Canadian daily newspapers.
So, your point is that Liberals are child molesters? And the “liberal press” is trying to hide this fact?

  7. No Furtz, all Liberals are not child molesters, but most Liberals will support their own no matter what they have done. Remember Dalton? The point here is what we see in our Premier, Trudeau, and others in the Liberal party. No word of condemnation, no parting of ways, just acceptance and continual support. see link

As to the news reporting – compare the senate mess to this? Federal to providential? I don’t think that is the issue. Mr. Levin is an accused sexual predator who was instrumental in corrupting the Ontario school system with pro-sodomy indoctrination.

  8. Pro-sodomy? I will withhold my contemptuous thoughts as per the rules of this site.
