Man Charged for Not Having Cab Fare to Hospital in Cornwall Ontario – Police Blotter OPP OPS Wed Sept 4, 2013

            Cornwall, ON – Jesse Dufresne, 22 and Jessica Albers, 21 both of Cornwall were arrested on the 3rd of September, 2013 and charged with several Criminal Code offences including the following:

 

  • Two counts of Fraud Under $5000
  • Personation
  • Identity Theft
  • Two counts of Attempt Fraud
  • Three counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime

 

It is alleged that the man and the woman had opened several accounts and applied for credit cards throughout the city while pretending to be someone else. They also ordered and received products using the cards. On the 18th of July, 2013 police received a complaint of possible Frauds that were taken place within the city and an investigation ensued. During their investigation a warrant had been executed on a Wellington Street residence and collected evidence. On the 3rd of September 2013 the man and the woman attended police headquarters to deal with the matter. The man was taken into custody and charged accordingly with an additional charge of breach of Probation. He was then held for a bail hearing. The woman who was also taken into custody and charged accordingly was later released with a future court date.

 

BREACHES

 

            Cornwall, ON – A 16-year-old Cornwall youth was arrested on the 3rd of September, 2013 and charged with breaching a Recognizance for not abiding by a curfew. It is alleged that the youth left his residence on the 2nd of September, 2013 and did not return within the set curfew. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. During their investigation the youth returned home and police re-attended, took the youth into custody and charged him accordingly. He was then transported to police headquarters and held for a bail hearing. The youths’ name was not released as per provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

 

Cornwall, ON – A 17-year-old Cornwall youth was arrested on the 4th of September, 2013 then charged with breaching a Youth Probation Order by not abiding house rules and failing to keep the peace. It is alleged that on the 3rd of September, 2013 the youth left his place of residence through a bathroom window breaching curfew. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. During their investigation in the early morning hours of the 4th of September, 2013 a member of the Cornwall Community Police spotted the youth in the area of the Wing Hing on Second Street. The youth was taken into custody and charged accordingly. The youth was transported to police headquarters and held for a bail hearing. The youths’ name was not released as per provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

 

Cornwall, ON –An 18-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on the 4th of September, 2013 and charged with breaching a Recognizance and a Youth Probation order for being out past curfew. He was also charged with breaching his Youth Probation order for associating with persons known to have a criminal record and failing to keep the peace. It is alleged that on the 3rd of September, 2013 police attended a Second Street address for an unrelated matter and located the man who was out past curfew and in the company of persons known to have a criminal record. The man was taken into custody and charged accordingly. The man was transported to police headquarters and held for a bail hearing. His name was not released as per provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

 

TRANSPORTATION FRAUD AND BREACHES

 

Cornwall, ON- Paul Grant, 28 of Cornwall was arrested on the 3rd of September, 2013 then charged with Transportation Fraud and breach of three separate releases for failing to keep the peace. It is alleged that the man took a taxi from his residence to a Pitt Street address then to the hospital, however had no money to pay for the fare. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. During their investigation the man was taken into custody and charged accordingly. He was transported to police headquarters and later released with a court date.

 

POSSESSION AND POSSESSION FOR THE PURPOSE OF TRAFFICKING

 

            Cornwall, ON – Donald Delormier, 24 of Akwesasne and Dai Huynh, 28 of Cornwall were arrested on the 3rd of September, 2013 then charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking and Possession of a Controlled Substance. It is alleged that on the 3rd of September, 2013 the two men attempted to pass through the port of entry with over 225 grams of Marijuana. The men were stopped by custom officials and police were contacted. During the police investigation the two men were taken into custody and charged accordingly. They were transported to police headquarters and later released with a court date of the 10th of October, 2013. The estimated street value of the controlled substance was approximately $1575.00.

SEPTEMBER TRAFFIC ACTION PLAN

 

Cornwall, ON – Cornwall, ON- The Cornwall Community Police Service’s Traffic Action Plan for the month of September will consist of targeted enforcement of Speeding within the School Zones. Police Officers will target motor vehicles that are found speeding within the School Zones in the City of Cornwall. The Cornwall Community Police will also be looking for any other infractions that might occur in these areas.

Obey the maximum speed limit posted on signs along our roads and highways, but always drive at a speed that will let you stop safely. As a general rule, drive at the same speed as traffic around you without going over the speed limit. Speeding within the Community Safety Zones may result in fines being as much as double in price as opposed to speeding in other parts of the city.

Remember the following when driving:

  • Lower your speed in bad weather, in heavy traffic or in a construction zone;
  • Slow down when driving at night, especially on unlit roads;
  • Follow at a safe distance, at least two seconds behind the vehicle in front of you.

If you are charged for speeding at 50 km/h over the speed limit, police will suspend your licence and impound your vehicle at the roadside. If you are found in contravention of these violations, it will cost you money and with some infractions demerit points. AUGUST TRAFFIC ACTION PLAN RESULTS

            Cornwall, ON- The Cornwall Community Police Service would like to thank our community for complying with of the August Traffic Action Plan being speeding. As a result of the enforcement, members from the Cornwall Community Police Service Patrol Division issued 98 Highway Traffic Act tickets for “Speeding” within the City of Cornwall.

(SD&G) – The Ontario Provincial Police Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry detachment, in coordination with HSD-East Region (Highway Safety Division), were on the look-out for aggressive drivers this holiday weekend.

(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police Service has arrested and charged two sixteen year old males who are responsible for thefts from vehicles in Kanata.

During the night of September 2, 2013, patrol officers attended the area of Hazeldean Mall in Kanata to respond to a call where youths were possibly breaking into vehicles. Patrol then arrested the two males after several vehicles were broken into.

The two young offenders, 16 years old, have been charged with Theft, Mischief to property and Possession of stolen property.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Tuesday September 3, 2013 10:25 am

(Ottawa) – The Ottawa Police Robbery Unit has laid charges in connection to three separate robbery investigations.

On August 16, 2013 at approximately 12:05 am, two victims, a male and female, were in an ATM vestibule situated along the 400 block of Preston Street. A lone male suspect entered brandishing a knife. Both victims were compelled to withdraw an undisclosed quantity of cash from their accounts. The suspect fled with an undisclosed quantity of cash from both victims. There were no injuries.

On August 17, 2013, at approximately 12:45 am, a lone suspect entered a gas station situated along the 600 block of Somerset Street West. At the time, there were two customers in the store. The suspect, armed with a knife, demanded cash and jumped onto the counter. The two customers pulled the suspect off the counter. A scuffle ensued and the suspect was able to break free and flee the scene empty handed. There were no injuries.

On August 18, 2013, at approximately 8:50 pm, a victim was in an ATM vestibule along the 400 block of Rideau Street. A suspect, again armed with a knife, entered and demanded an undisclosed quantity of cash, which the victim has just withdrawn. The suspect fled with the cash. There were no injuries.

In all cases, the suspect fled to a waiting vehicle and driver.

On August 30, a suspect was arrested without incident in connection to these investigations. Alexander McNaughton, age 27 of Ottawa, has been charged with the following:
* Five (5) counts of robbery
* Three (3) counts of possession of a weapon
* Three (3) counts of wearing a disguise
* Two (2) counts of assault with a weapon
* One (1) count breach of undertaking
Mr. McNaughton remains in custody and appears by video on September 3, 2013.

The investigations remain ongoing. The Robbery Unit is seeking a second suspect in connection with this case.

(Ottawa)-The Ottawa Police Service is investigating a shooting, which occurred in the 900 block of Meadowlands Drive, on Sunday, September 1st, 2013, at approximately 03:25 am. A male was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation is continuing.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Sunday, September 01, 2013               2:00 p.m.   

 

(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police Service Sexual Assault/Child Abuse Section is investigating the report of a Sexual Assault that occurred on Sunday, September 01, 2013 near a park in the area of Bilberry Drive and Jeanne D’Arc Boulevard.

At approximately 4:30 a.m., a 23 year-old woman was inappropriately touched by a male that came up behind her. Following the assault, the male suspect ran away from the scene and headed south bound on Bilberry Drive towards Jeanne D’Arc Boulevard.

The suspect was described by the victim as being a white male of medium build; 5’5” tall; his face was covered by a balaclava (dark ski mask) and he was dressed in dark clothing ( long sleeve shirt and long pants).
