Cornwall, ON – Calsey Bigtree-Thompson, 22 of St-Regis was arrested on the 6th of September, 2013 on the strength of a warrant. It is alleged that the woman failed to attend court on the 3rd of September, 2013 and a warrant was issued for her arrest. On the 6th of September the woman attended police headquarters to deal with the matter. She was taken into custody and held for a bail hearing.
Cornwall, ON – Oliver McTaggart, 29 of Cornwall was arrested on the 6th of September, 2013 on the strength of a warrant for having breached a Conditional Sentence. On the 6th of September, 2013 the man who was known to be wanted was spotted by a member of the Cornwall Community Police in the area of Montreal Road at Lawrence Street. The man ran from that officer and was then spotted by police in the area of Marlborough Street and First Street. The man once again ran from police, however was later found to be hiding in a storage unit in the area. He was taken into custody and transported to police headquarters where he was held for a bail hearing.
Cornwall, ON – John Sabourin, 39 of Ottawa was arrested on the 7th of September, 2013 on the strength of a warrant. On the 7th of September, 2013 Cornwall Police attended the Ottawa Police headquarters and assumed custody of the man who was being held by Ottawa on unrelated matters. It is alleged that the man fail to attend court on the 4th of October, 2011 and a warrant was issued for his arrest. Police transported the man to Cornwall Community Police headquarters and later released him with a future court date.
ATTEMPT THEFT
Cornwall, ON – Kyle Delorme, 20 of Cornwall was arrested on the 7th of September, 2013 and charged with Attempt Theft. It is alleged that on the 7th of September, 2013 the man was spotted by an off duty police officer attempting to unlock a bicycle that did not belong to him at Summit Health Fitness. The man was taken into custody, charged accordingly then transported to police headquarters by a uniformed officer and later released with a future court date.
DOMESTIC CRIMINAL HARASSMENT
Cornwall, ON – A 49-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on the 8th of September, 2013 and charged with Criminal Harassment. It is alleged that on the 7th of September, 2013 the man contacted and drove by his ex girlfriends’ residence despite having been previously warned by police not to communicated with her. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. During their investigation the man was contacted and on the 8th of September, 2013 the man attended police headquarters to deal with the matter. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and later released with a future court date. His name was not released as it might identify the victim.
BREACHES
Cornwall, ON – Kimberly Laird, 32 of Cornwall was arrested on the 7th of September, 2013 and charged with breach of a recognizance for not residing at a specified address and to abide by the rules of that residence. The woman was also charged with breaching a Probation order for not keeping the peace. It is alleged that on the 2nd of September, 2013 the woman left the address where she was to reside and had not returned since. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. During their investigation police located the woman at a Gloucester address, took her into custody and charged her accordingly. She was transported to police headquarters and held for a bail hearing.
Cornwall, ON – An 18-year-old St-Regis man was arrested on the 8th of September, 2013 and charged with breaching his recognizance for not abiding a curfew, having consumed alcohol and failing to keep the peace. It is alleged that in the early morning hours of the 8th of September, 2013 police were called to a disturbance at the St. Lawrence College. On police arrival the man ran from police and was later located. Police took the man who had an odor of alcohol into custody and charged him accordingly. The man was subsequently transported to police headquarters where he was held for a bail hearing. His name was not released as per provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

SIU Investigating Vehicle Injury in Ottawa

Mississauga (6 September, 2013) — Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is probing the circumstances surrounding the injuries sustained by a 73- year old female in Ottawa.
Preliminary information indicates the following:
• At approximately 11:48 a.m. on Friday, September 6, 2013, an officer with the Ottawa Police Service was travelling on Elgin Street;
• A short time later, the cruiser struck a 73- year old female and a 48-year old male at the intersection of Elgin Street and Sparks Street;
• The female was taken to the hospital and is being treated for fractures.
The SIU has assigned four investigators, two forensic investigators and a collision reconstructionist to probe the circumstances of this incident.
The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault. Under the Police Services Act, the Director of the SIU must
- consider whether an officer has committed a criminal offence in connection with the incident under investigation
- depending on the evidence, lay a criminal charge against the officer if appropriate or close the file without any charges being laid
- report the results of any investigations to the Attorney General.

Mississauga (9 September, 2013) — Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is probing the circumstances surrounding the injury sustained by a 50-year-old man in Hamilton this weekend.
Preliminary information indicates the following:
• Shortly before 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2013, an officer with the Hamilton Police Service attempted to stop a vehicle. When the driver of the Honda did not stop, the officer proceeded to follow it;
• The first officer lost sight of the vehicle, but soon after a second officer observed the vehicle and began following it;
• Shortly after, the Honda, which was traveling southbound on Hess Street, collided with a Kia traveling eastbound on Herkimer Street. The Kia struck a bus shelter on the southeast corner of the intersection. A man standing in the shelter was taken to hospital for treatment of a fractured leg.
The SIU has assigned three investigators, two forensic investigators and a collision reconstructionist to probe the circumstances of this incident. At this time, two subject officers and one witness officer have been designated.
Ottawa Police releases sketch of a suspect in two sexual assaults

(Ottawa)—The Ottawa Police Service Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Unit is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying an individual suspected of two sexual assaults and have released an artist’s rendering of the man.

The first incident occurred in the West end on August 5, 2012 in a residential complex at the intersection of Greenbank Road and Banner Road. The second incident occurred in the South end on June 26, 2013on the footpath between Lancaster Road and Erinbrook Crescent.
The suspect is described as having olive or light brown complexion, medium build, approximately 175-180cm (5’9″to 5’11”) with short dark hair, he had a neatly trimmed chin strap type beard in August 2012 and facial hair in June 2013, spoke English with no accent however he may also speak a foreign language. He appeared to be in his 20s but he could be older. He was also described as having a neat and well-kept appearance.
Possible witnesses in June 26th assault
Police also want to speak to potential witnesses in the vicinity of the footpath just before the assault occurred on June 26th between 9:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Among these, a person was walking on Lancaster Road, described as a man with a darker complexion, 30-40 yrs old, wearing light coloured rectangular glasses; a couple with the woman wearing a Hijab were also observed walking around the area at the time of the incident.
The Ottawa Police is asking these witnesses and any other witnesses to come forward and share any information they have.
“Ottawa Police has yielded information that may indicate that the two sexual assaults have been perpetrated by the same male suspect,” noted Staff Sergeant Angela McDade, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Unit. “At this point, we don’t believe that there is a connection between both victims, other than the possibility that the culprit may have or had connections to both of these areas.

Tips to avoid the Grandparents Scam

(Ottawa)—The Ottawa Police Service Fraud Section wishes to raise awareness about telephone con artists that target senior citizens using the Distressed Loved One Tactic.
Across the country, con artists are scamming grandparents out of thousands of dollars by posing as their grandchildren in distress.
How this works:
A Grandparent receives a frantic telephone call from someone they believe to be their Grandchild.
The alleged Grandchild sounds distressed and may call from a location that has heavy background noise or static making it difficult to make out the voice.
The supposed Grandchild claims to be involved in some type of trouble while travelling in Canada, the US, or overseas (e.g. being arrested, having been involved in a car accident or experiencing major car trouble) and asks the Grandparent to immediately wire money to post bail, pay for medical treatment or unforeseen car repairs.
The scammer typically asks for several thousand dollars and may even call back again hours or days later, asking for more money.
The scammer may even claim embarrassment about the alleged trouble they’ve caused, requesting that the Grandparent keep it a secret from other family members and friends.
A variation of the scam may involve two scammers: the first scammer calls and poses as the Grandchild under arrest; the second scammer poses as a law Enforcement Officer–he or she gets on the phone with the grandparent and explains what fines need to be paid.
A common theme of the scam is the caller’s request for the Grandparents to wire through Western Union or to provide account routing numbers and in some instances requesting e-mail money transfers.
Please be aware that wiring money is like sending cash. There is absolutely no protection for the sender. Typically, there is no way of reversing the transaction once it’s gone, and no way of retracing the transaction for recovery of funds.
It is possible that the scammers find their targets on the internet or through social media.
How to avoid being scammed:
– Be suspicious when you receive a call from a faraway location;
– The caller identifies him or herself as your Grandchild only (no first name provided);
– The Grandchild claims to be in some sort of distress;
– The caller insists on you wiring money immediately.
