Second Last Week for the Season at the Long Sault Farmer’s Market by Reg Coffey – October 04, 2013

4Oct13

CFN – Only one week left for the Long Sault Farmer’s Market this season. There hasn’t really been a real killer frost yet so the vegetables are still growing and being harvested. Unfortunately there is no corn but we still have strawberries from Avonmore Berry Farm. There are apples galore and lots of fresh root vegetables for your seasonal comfort food delight. Of course, let’s not forget all of the delicious bakery goods, canned goods, Thai food, buffalo meat and coffee.

So what is your favorite fall comfort food? I waffle between cabbage rolls, beef stew and main meal minestrone. I can also drool over a cottage roll with cabbage, carrots and onions. If I replaced the meat with different cuts of buffalo meat from the market I could buy everything in Long Sault this coming Friday. You can even get turkey from Ray-Mar Farms and pumpkin pie from Avonmore Berry Farm. What more could you ask for?

Friday, October 11 is the last market day for this season. Don’t miss a chance to get the fixins for that Thanksgiving dinner from local producers. Everybody wins. You get great quality food products and you help grow the local economy.
