            Cornwall, ON – A 26-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on December 5th, 2013 and charged with assault and threats. It is alleged that on December 5th, 2013 the man was involved in a verbal argument with his 23-year-old common law wife when he slapped and punched her in the head all the while threatening to harm her. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. During their investigation they took the man into custody and charged him accordingly. He was transported to police headquarters and held for a bail hearing. His name was not released as it might identify the victim in the matter.

 

THEFT, BREACH

 

            Cornwall, ON – Cory Sabourin, 35 of Cornwall was arrested on December 5th, 2013 and charged with theft under $5000 and four counts of breach undertaking for failing to keep the peace, leaving his residence without permission, attending a specific store and not abiding by rules of the residence. It is alleged that the man attended a Brookdale Avenue store and removed several CDs and DVDs then left the store without making any attempts to pay for the items. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. During their investigation they took the man who was still in the area into custody, charged him accordingly and later released him with a court date of December 12th, 2013.

 

IMPAIRED

 

            Cornwall, ON – Simon Groulx, 71 of Cornwall was arrested on December 5th, 2013 and charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle. It is alleged that on December 5th, 2013 the man was found to be operating a motor vehicle in the area of Pitt Street and Ninth Street while under the influence of alcohol. During a traffic stop the man was taken into custody and charged accordingly. The man was later released with a court of December 17th, 2013.

WARRANT

 

            Cornwall, ON – Jamie Garlow, 21 of Cornwall was arrested on December 3rd, 2013 on the strength of a warrant. It is alleged the man failed to attend court on October 24th, 2013 and a warrant was issued for his arrest. On December 3rd, 2013 police attended the man’s residence and took him into custody. He was transported and held for a bail hearing.

 

Cornwall, ON – Steven Johnson, 27 of Akwesasne was arrested on December 3rd, 2013 on the strength of a warrant. It is alleged that on June 8th, 2011 the man failed to attend for prints and as a result a court date was set. On November 28th, 2013 the man then failed to attend court and a warrant was issued for his arrest. On December 3rd, 2013 police were called to attend the Cornwall Court House as the man was currently in custody on an unrelated matter. The man was arrested on the strength of the warrant and remained in custody for a bail hearing.

 

DRUG WARRANT EXECUTED

 

            Cornwall, ON – Members of the Street Crime Unit executed a drug warrant on December 3rd, 2013 at a Brookdale Avenue apartment. It is alleged that Zain Abdin, 27 of Laval, Quebec was found to be in possession of the following:

  • 7.1 g of crack cocaine
  • 2.1 g of marihuana
  • A quantity of Canadian currency and drug paraphernalia

On December 3rd, 2013 the man was taken into custody and charged with:

  • Possession of cocaine
  • Possession of marihuana
  • Possession of property obtained by crime ( money)
  • Two counts of breach of undertaking for being within the city of Cornwall and for failing to keep the peace.

The man was transported to police headquarters and held for a bail hearing. The street value of the drugs is estimated to be approximately $730.00.

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of a person-of-interest in a string of commercial break-and-enters in theCarlton Street and Parliament Street area.

It is reported that:

– between November 2, 2013 and November 5, 2013, a man used force to enter into several commercial properties

– the entries took place overnight, while unoccupied

– damage to the properties and personal property has occurred, totaling a substantial sum of money

The man is described as white, 5’9″ – 6′, thin-to-medium build, short dark hair with a widow’s peak. He was wearing a dark jacket, dark pants and white shoes.

A security camera image of a man to be identified has been released.

General tips for property security:

– ensure sure all doors, windows, skylights are secured, paying attention to any entrances in alleys

– when the building is going to be left vacant for a period of time, make it look like it is occupied by utilizing timers on interior lights

– trim or remove shrubbery and other landscaping that block the view of the building from the street

– be mindful of strangers and report suspicious actions around businesses, and other structures

– have neighbours watch over your property while your away

– be aware of any landscaping items that may be used to smash windows and/or doors

– be active in local Neighbourhood and Business Watch programs

– have cameras and alarm systems installed and ensure they are in good working order

1. two counts of Fraud Under
2. two counts of Forged Document

DRUGS SEIZED

(South Glengarry) – On December 04, 2013 at approximately 2:30pm, SD&G OPP officers had the occasion to perform a safety inspection of a tractor trailer unit at the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) scales on Highway 401, South Glengarry Township. The check resulted in the seizure of a quantity of suspected marihuana, cannabis resin (hashish) and methamphetamine pills from inside the vehicle.

Dany MORIN (40) of St-Come QC was arrested and is charged with;

– Possession of a Controlled Substance (3 counts)

He was released and scheduled to appear in Alexandria court on March 05, 2014.
(South Dundas) – On December 04, 0213 at approximately 3:30pm, SD&G OPP members were conducting Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) check stops at the intersection of County Roads 8 and 41. The check of a vehicle resulted in a quantity of suspected marihuana seized from within the vehicle.

Passenger Jennifer Ann KENNEDY (42) of South Dundas was arrested and is charged with;

– Possession of a Controlled Substance

She was released to appear in Morrisburg court on February 04, 2014.

DISTURBANCE

(North Glengarry) – On December 06, 2013 at approximately 5:15am, SD&G OPP officers responded to a report of a disturbance at a business property on County Road 20, North Glengarry Township. Investigation revealed an intoxicated male was causing a disturbance inside the premise. He was also found to be in possession of a small quantity of methamphetamine pills. Further checks also indicated the male was in contravention of conditions from a previous incident.

Keith BIGRAS (29) of Grenville Sur La Rouge QC was arrested and is charged with;

– Breach of Probation (2 counts)
– Causing a Disturbance
– Possession of a Controlled Substance
– Being Intoxicated in a Public Place (Liquor Licence Act)

He was released to appear in Alexandria court on January 08, 2014.

Ottawa Police Services

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:  Wednesday, December 4, 2013          4:23pm

 

(Ottawa)— On November 30, 2013, Ottawa Police Service patrol officers attended a residence in the 100 block on Landry Street in Vanier, in response to a male beating his dog.

 

Following an investigation by Central District Investigations in conjunction with the Ottawa Humane Society, the owner of the dog has been charged with Cruelty to animals under the Criminal Code.

 

Balaji RENGARAJAN, 35 years old of Ottawa will appear in court on January 9, 2014.
