SD&G Paramedics Grateful for Christmas card from Hannah in Cornwall Ontario – Dec 29, 2013

Cornwall Ontario –       Paramedics of Cornwall SD&G would like to thank someone we’ve only to come to know by her first name of Hannah for her wonderful Christmas cards she presented to Paramedics on Dec 27^th, 2013. Paramedics were surprised and the most part speechless at the kindness of this young child. She surprised Paramedics by showing up to Cornwall Community Hospital with her father and waited patiently for Paramedics to roll in (as we did quite a bit that day.) Hannah and her father presented those fortunate Paramedics with Christmas cards which one read “To: The Real “Lifesavers” Hope your holidays are filled with Joy and Happiness. Thank you for everything you do! From: Hannah.” Attached to the front of the card was a pack of Lifesavers candy.

This kind of thing may seem insignificant to most however for Paramedics it is quite the opposite. Paramedics often see people at their worst and don’t always get to see the positive outcome caused by the amazing patient care they render. Paramedics are often faced with the harsh reality of what their work involves, especially during the holiday season which can be particularly difficult.  They are not in this profession to be thanked and praised for their hard work but when it does come it feels quite amazing.

As a supervisor I was quite amazed at the positive stories and reactions from Paramedics when I brought this up at the next day’s briefing. This small token of appreciation made everyone’s day that much better and allowed us to reflect on why we chose this profession and the help we provide to those in need.

I invite Hannah and her father to contact Cornwall SD&G Paramedics who would love to take her for a tour of the ambulance and the station in Cornwall.
