Mayor Kilger Skips First All Candidate Event in Cornwall Ontario – Sept 4, 2014

kilger nods offCORNWALL Ontario – Maybe the commute to Ottawa is wearing him down; but Cornwall Ontario Mayor Bob Kilger skipped the first political event of the election as the majority of candidates appeared before the members of the FOCUS ART group in Cornwall Ontario to talk about arts and funding.

Present were mayoralty candidates Leslie O’Shaughnessy and Jamie Gilcig, who are already getting a rough ride from the Seaway News editor Todd Lihou, and most of the council candidates.  Francis Racine from Le Journal showed up as well.

It was a Q&A format with candidates having three rounds of questions before members from the floor could add to the discussion.

Much of the “focus” was on the hopes of a future art centre with some of the answers ranging from sensible to the near absurd.

Particular out of their depth were councilors Glen Grant, Syd Gardiner,  and candidates Rony Macarone and  Brock Frost with Mr. Frost trying  to make up for it by writing a cheque to the group for $500.   The lengths some people will go to get an endorsement and some votes!

Missing were Mark A MacDonald, Geoff Stephenson, Davey Bedard, Roland Besner, Pat Clarke, Heather Megill, and newly announced Denis Carr, Maurice Dupelle and Justin Townsdale.

  1. Wakie, Wakie. Bare Ass is sleeping on the job as usual. How is he going to make the next term I don’t know. He can’t face up to his fellow collegues and that sure won’t cut it at all. You can’t run forever and sooner or later you will have to face the music.

  2. It has been said that!

Those persons who get to big for their Britches will be exposed in the end.

Mayor Kilger that “end” is closing in on you.

  3. Editor,

It seems to be a well known secret, that our Mayor resides in Ottawa ? If this is indeed a fact, how can he legally run in our municipal election ? Are their not rules, regarding residency ? It’s beginning to sound like a repeat of Senator Duffy’s residency issues ?

Bebe we can all have more than one addy. If the mayor has an apartment on 4th Street and it’s the addy on his driver’s license he’s good to go. IF he has a bit on the side in Ottawa and he sleeps there most nights that’s his biz.

  5. Let him sleep. At least while he is sleeping he is not costing the city any money or scandals

  6. Whereas I realize that the arts & funding for such is important to some people, I wonder if there are not more pressing issues. As this might get me yelled at by some folk, it is also necessary to take a stand & show what is deemed important to you, especially if you plan to run for office. I realize Admin that running for mayor must encompass a whole raft of items. As an individual running for a seat in council,at some point, I should be clear about what I consider important. Unfortunately, the arts & funding thereof is not as important to me as say economic development, core services, services for the elderly, etc. I would still be disappointed to loose some of the arts that make up our city, but not at the expense of said core items.

  7. There are more pressing issues than what the arts community wants. Lower taxes to start with would be nice.

  8. I fully agree with Hugger here again. God forbid we do agree sometimes. There are a great deal of pressing issues that have to be dealt with as top priority like taxes and encouraging businesses in the community or else the town will die literally. It is way long overdo that the public wake up and take an active part in the community.
