CCPS LOGOCOMPUTER REPAIR SCAM ALERT

 

            Cornwall, ON- The Cornwall Community Police Service would like to inform the residents of our Community of a computer repair scam. It is reported that the culprit(s) contact the victim by telephone and suggest that the home computer has a virus. The culprit(s) explains that the virus can be dealt with from the business computer and charges the victim approximately $200.00 to eliminate the virus. The culprit(s) provides a business name and a false telephone number for complaints. The culprit(s) obtained payment by credit card and has access to all information on the victim’s computer. Shortly after the fraud is completed the victim’s computer is reported to malfunction.

 

The Cornwall Community Police Service would like residents to take precautions with telephone scams. If you have any doubt, just hang up. You have the right to check out any caller by requesting written information, a call back number, references and time to think about the offer or situation. Do not provide confidential banking information and/or credit card information over the telephone without being informed about the service and researching the situation.

THEFT, BREACH

 

Cornwall, ON – Two 17-year-old Cornwall youths were arrested on December 24th, 2014 and charged with possession of stolen property and breach of probation for failing to keep the peace. One of the youths was also charged with breaching his recognizance for failing to keep the peace. It is alleged that the two youths were spotted removing property from parked vehicles in the area of Fifth Street and Augustus Street in early morning hours of December 24th, 2014 and police were contacted to investigate. The two youths were spotted in the area Augustus Street and Sixth Street by police and taken into custody. They were charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing. Their names were not released as per provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

WARRANT

 

Cornwall, ON – Zachary McKinnon, 23 of Ottawa was arrested on December 22nd, 2014 on the strength of a warrant. It is alleged that Hamilton Police Service had a warrant for his arrest and on December 22nd, 2014 the man attended the Cornwall Courthouse to deal with the matter. He was taken into custody on the strength of the warrant and held for a bail hearing.

 

Cornwall, ON – Mark Walker, 51 of Cornwall was arrested on December 22nd, 2014 on the strength of a probation office warrant. It is alleged that the man failed to abide by his probation conditions and a warrant was issued for his arrest. On December 22nd, 2014 the man was taken into custody by the OPP on Cornwall’s warrant and a member of the Cornwall Community Police Service assumed custody of the man. He was held for a bail hearing.

Seeking public assistance to locate missing 73 year old Ottawa man

(Ottawa)— The Ottawa Police Service is looking for public assistance to locate missing 73 year old Douglas Lee.  He was last seen at approx. 6:00 pm last night when he left his residence in the Meadowland and Merivale area.

Mr. Lee is an Asian male, 5’5” (166cm), thin build, shaved head and wears glasses.  He was wearing a dark coat, blue jeans and a dark hat.  He was driving a burgundy Hyundai 4 door with Ontario license plate BHMB 949.  He will likely have his black Labrador Retriever with him.

His vehicle was last seen this morning on Highway 38 near Campbellford at approx 9:30am.

Shooting at Bloomsbury Crescent and Regency Terrace

(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police Guns & Gangs Unit is investigating a shooting that occurred on December 29th near the intersection of Bloomsbury Crescent and Regency Terrace.

At 4:48 pm, officers responded to a call where a male had been shot. The male attended the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

 Charges laid in multiple bank robberies

(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police Service Robbery Unit has laid a number of charges in connection to a bank robbery on December 22 in the 700 block of Bank Street in the Glebe area as well as two other linked bank robberies.

On December 23, 2014, at approximately 11:35 am, a lone male entered a bank situated along the 1100 block of Bank Street. The suspect approached a customer service representative, indicated he had a gun, and made a demand for money. The suspect was provided an undisclosed quantity of cash and walked out without incident. No weapon was seen.

On December 29, 2014, at approximately 1:40 pm, a lone male entered the same bank as the December 23, 2014 robbery. The suspect approached a customer service representative and made a demand for money. The suspect left the bank with an undisclosed quantity of cash. The suspect was observed entering a cab by a bystander and was arrested at a Merivale Road address a short time later by Patrol officers. Police recovered a quantity of cash and an imitation handgun.

There were no injuries in any of the robberies.

Trevor SPARLING, age 41 of Ottawa, is charged with the following offences in relation to the three bank robberies:

  • Three counts of robbery
  • Three counts of wearing a disguise
  • One count of pointing a firearm
  • Three counts of possession of proceeds of crime

Mr. Sparling appears in court on December 30, 2014.

SD&G OPP

WOMAN CHARGED FOLLOWING THEFT INVESTIGATION
(North Glengarry) – Following an ongoing investigation into a reported theft from a business located on Main Street in the Village of Maxville, North Glengarry Township, SD&G OPP have charged an adult female. An investigation began on October 23, 2014 after a report was received that an employee had taken profits from the business. The incidents would have occurred between September 2013 and October 2014.

On December 19, 2014 – Brittany TREMBLAY (25) of South Stormont Township was arrested and charged with;

– Theft Over $5000

She was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Alexandria on February 4, 2015.

DRUGS SEIZED AT RIDE
(South Glengarry) – On December 29, 2014 at approximately 1:37pm, SD&G OPP officers were conducting Reduce Impaired Drivers Everywhere (RIDE) checks at an off-ramp of Highway 401, South Glengarry Township. A check of a vehicle resulted in the seizure of a quantity of suspected marihuana.

The adult male driver, Craig ANTAYA (20), a female passenger, Jordan FRANSEN (18) and a male youth passenger (17), all of Tecumseh, Ontario were arrested and each charged with;

– Possession of a Controlled Substance – Under 30 Grams

All were released and scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Alexandria on February 4, 2015.

Possible Handgun Used in Home Invasion

KPS DEC 30 2014Detectives from the Major Crime Unit are looking for assistance in identifying two suspects in a home invasion robbery that occurred in the early morning hours near Portsmouth Avenue and Princess Street.

At approximately 4:00 a.m. on the morning of Monday, December 29, 2014 the 34-year-old male victim was in his Florence Street residence when two males gained entry and forcibly robbed him of a quantity of cash. What appeared to be a black metal handgun was brandished by one suspect, which was pointed at and then used to strike the victim in the face end with the butt end.

The suspects demanded money from the victim’s wallet before they fled the area. They were observed running southbound on Florence Street before getting into a blue four-door vehicle, similar to a Pontiac Sunfire, which then drove away northbound on Florence Avenue. The suspects are described as:

Suspect #1: Male, Caucasian, 5’10, slim build, wearing a black balaclava, black leather jacket and was carrying what appeared to be a black handgun.

Suspect #2: Male, Caucasian, 5’7 – 5’8, slim build, wearing a dark scarf covering his face and holding a metal mallet or tool of some kind.
