Assault by Pizza in Cornwall Ontario – Police Blotter NOV 17, 2015

CRIMINAL HARASSMENT

Cornwall, ON – A 45-year-old Summerstown man was arrested on November 16th, 2015 and charged with criminal harassment. It is alleged between July, 2015 and October, 2015 the man continually communicated with his 25-year-old ex-girlfriend by way of text messages despite having been warned by police not to. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On November 16th, 2015 the man attended police headquarters to deal with the matter. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on December 15th, 2015. His name was not released as it would identify the victim in the matter.

ASSAULT

Cornwall, ON – A 26-year-old Cornwall woman was arrested on November 17th, 2015 and charged with assault. It is alleged during an argument in the early morning hours of November 17th, 2015 with her 27-year-old boyfriend the woman struck him in the head several times and police were contacted to investigate. During their investigation the woman was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on December 15th, 2015. Her name was not released as it would identify the victim in the matter.

ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON

 

Cornwall, ON – A 44-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on November 13th, 2015 and charged with assault with a weapon. It is alleged during an argument on November 13th, 2015 with his 25-year-old girlfriend the man struck her with a piece of pizza and police were contacted to investigate. During their investigation the man was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on December 22nd, 2015.

 

BREACH

 

Cornwall, ON – An 18-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on November 14th, 2015 and charged with breach of recognizance for not residing at a specified address. It is alleged during an investigation into an unwanted person call on November 14th, 2015 police found the man to be breaching his conditions. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing. His name was not released as the conditions stem from an event when the man was charged as a youth and is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

 

SEXUAL ASSAULT

 

Cornwall, ON – Ryan Whitford, 21 of Cornwall was arrested on November 14th, 2015 and charged with sexual assault. It is alleged the man sexually assaulted a 15-year-old youth in August, 2015 and police were contacted to investigate. On November 14th, 2015 the man was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on December 24th, 2015.

 

 

POSSESSION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE, BREACH

 

Cornwall, ON – A 17-year-old Cornwall youth was arrested on November 15th, 2015 and charged with possession of a controlled substance and breach of undertaking, youth probation and recognizance for not abiding by house rules, being in the possession of drugs and failing to keep the peace. It is alleged while at his residence on November 15th, 2015 the youth was found to be in possession of a quantity of morphine pills and police were contacted to investigate. The youth was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing. His name was not released as per provision of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

 

OPP

DOMESTIC INVESTIGATION

(North Stormont) – On November 16, 2015 at approximately 9:20pm, Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry (SD&G) Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a report of a domestic situation at a residence on Rush City Road, North Stormont Township. Investigation indicated that an altercation between an adult male and his common-law spouse resulted in the accused uttering a threat to damage property. The male was intercepted by police operating a vehicle and found to be under the influence of alcohol.

The 31-year-old male from Cornwall, Ontario was arrested and is charged with;

– Utter Threats – Damage Property
– Driving a Motor Vehicle while Ability Impaired
– Driving a Motor Vehicle with More Than 80 Milligrams of Alcohol in Blood

He was held in custody pending an appearance (bail) at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cornwall. His name is being withheld in order to protect the identity of the victim.
BREAK IN/THEFT

(South Stormont) – On November 16, 2015 at approximately 9:20am, SD&G OPP officers responded to a report of a break-in to a residence on George Patrick Drive, South Stormont Township. Investigation indicated that the home was forcibly entered and a grey wide-screen Apple MacBook was taken.

An investigation continues.

(RUSSELL COUNTY, ON) – The Russell County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating several incidents after responding to 188 calls for service from Sunday November 8th to Saturday November 14th.  Among these occurrences, OPP responded to six domestic disputes, two thefts, four criminal harassments, one impaired, and six breach of probation related occurrences. As a result of those occurrences, eleven males and four female were charged with various offences.

Domestic Assault

On the 8th of November OPP Provincial Constable Anne-Christine GAUTHIER and Pierre-Etienne CAMPEAU responded to a report of a male and female engage in a physical fight in the village of Casselman. Investigation indicated that an altercation had occurred between an adult male and an adult female resulting in the male assaulting the female. The female suffered minor injuries. An adult male (38) from Casselman, Ontario was arrested and is charged with Overcome Resistance by Attempting to Choke contrary to Section 246(a), Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to Section 733.1(1), Theft Under $5000 contrary to Section 334(b), and Assault – Spousal contrary to Section 266 of the Criminal Code of Canada. The male was held for a Bail Hearing. The name of the accused person is being withheld in order to protect the identity of the victim.

Alcohol related incident

On the 14th of November OPP Provincial Constable Miguel CLEMENT responded to a complaint from the public regarding a possible impaired driver on the 417 highway. The vehicle was located pulled over on the shoulder of the highway. The driver was arrested after failing a roadside A.S.D. (Approved Screening Device) test.  Following breath tests at the detachment, Laurie GIBSON, age 51 of Perth was charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle contrary to Section 253(1)(a) and with Operate a Motor Vehicle with more than 80 mgs/alcohol in 100 ml/blood contrary to Section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada. She was released on a promise to appear in court in L’Orignal on December 9th 2015.

Any driver charged with excess blood alcohol is also subject to an automatic 90 day driver’s license suspension and their vehicle will be impounded for 7 days.

Traffic violation

On the 14th of November OPP Provincial Constable Sean BYRNE was conducting traffic enforcement on the 417 highway in the Russell Township. The officer observed a Volkswagen Jetta travelling at a high rate of speed and determined the speed to be 161km/hr in a posted 100km/hr zone. The male driver, age 17 of Mississauga, was charged for Race a Motor Vehicle contrary to Section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act. His driver’s licence was suspended for seven days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days as a result of the stunt driving charge. The driver is scheduled to appear at the L’Orignal court on the 12th November 2015.

Police remind motorists that an essential part of the enforcement job is to save lives and reduce injuries on our roadways.  Educating the public about safe driving practices is a priority.

Personation / Transportation Fraud

On the 12th of November OPP Provincial Constable Pamela COMO was dispatched to a transportation fraud in the town of Casselman. Investigation revealed that a male had hired a taxi to transport him from the Ottawa airport to Casselman even though he did not have money to pay for his fare. The male provided false identification and lied to police about his identity. Once identified, it was found that the male was presently under probation. Daniel-Philippe LALONDE, age 49 of Ottawa, was charged with Transportation Fraud contrary to Section 393(3), Personation with intent to avoid arrest contrary to Section 403(1)(d), Obstruct Peace Officer contrary to Section 129(a), and Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to Section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada. The male was held for a Show Cause Hearing.

BREACH OF CONDITION

(South Glengarry) – On November 14, 2015 at approximately 12:50pm, a Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry (SD&G) Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer intercepted a vehicle on Highway 401, South Glengarry Township. A check of the male driver revealed he was in breach of a condition (non- communication order) imposed from a previous incident.

Matthew ASIEDU (27) of Brampton, Ontario was arrested and is charged with;

– Fail to Comply with Recognizance

He was held in custody pending an appearance (bail) at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cornwall.

 

DRUGS SEIZED AT TRAFFIC STOP

(South Glengarry) – On November 15, 2015 at approximately 2:36am, SD&G OPP officers intercepted a vehicle for speeding (154km/h in a 100km/h zone). The stop resulted in the seizure of a quantity of suspected marihuana.

The male driver, Wissem GUIGA (20) of Toronto, Ontario was arrested and is charged with;

– Possession of a Controlled Substance (marihuana) – Under 30 Grams
– Race a Motor Vehicle (Highway Traffic Act)
– Fail to Have Insurance Card (Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act)

He was released and scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice (drug charge) in Alexandria on December 9, 2015. His driver’s permit and vehicle were seized for a period of 7 days (speeding) as per legislation.

 

IMPAIRED DRIVER CHARGED

(South Glengarry) – On November 16, 2015 at approximately 3:22am, SD&G OPP officers intercepted a vehicle on Molan Street, South Glengarry Township. The stop indicated that the adult male driver was under the influence of alcohol.

Neil WENGER (23) of North Glengarry Township was arrested and is charged with;

– Driving a Motor Vehicle While Ability Impaired
– Driving a Motor Vehicle with More than 80 Milligrams of Alcohol in Blood

He was released and scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Alexandria on December 9, 2015.

 

EXCESSIVE SPEEDS

(Dundas Twp) – Over the past weekend, SD&G OPP officers conducting speed measuring enforcement in Dundas Township intercepted the following vehicles for traveling at excessive speeds. In all stops, the vehicle was impounded and the driver’s permit seized for seven (7) days in accordance to policy.

– November 14, 2015 – 10:58am; vehicle stopped on Highway 401, South Dundas Township travelling 158km/h (100km/h zone). Male driver (28) from Mississauga, Ontario charged accordingly.

– November 15, 2015 – 12:58am; vehicle stopped on Boyne Road, North Dundas Township travelling 154km/h (80km/h zone). Male driver (20) from North Dundas Township charged accordingly.
