OPP Car Chase on 401 Near Brockville JAN 26, 2016

Officers from the OPP became involved in an arrest after a fleeing suspect vehicle failed to stop for police.
On the 25th of January 2016, just after 4:00 PM, officers from Leeds OPP received numerous driving complaints on eastbound Highway 401 from the public, including one where a vehicle was forced off of the road. The vehicle described as a white cargo van was located by OPP at about 4:30 PM just west of Brockville. Attempts to stop the vehicle were unsuccessful.

As the driver evaded attempts by police to stop, it was involved in a collision on eastbound Highway 401 at Blue Church Road. The driver exited his vehicle, crossed the median and ran into live lanes of westbound traffic. He then attempted to gain access to a stopped westbound vehicle and then a police cruiser. Both were unsuccessful.
Following his attempts to gain access to vehicles, the driver was taken into custody.

Investigation revealed that the vehicle he was operating had been stolen from a commercial business in Kingston that afternoon.

There were no injuries.

A 17 year old male from Kingston faces numerous charges including two counts of Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Failing to Remain at a collision, Flight from Police, Motor Vehicle Theft, and Resisting Arrest all contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He is scheduled to appear for bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice, Provincial Division – Brockville on 26 January 2016.

The investigation continues by A/Sgt Brian Jones of the East Region Highway Enforcement Team (HET).
