Letter to the Editor Nurse DARLENE WALSH Against Euthanasia Laws MARCH 18, 2016

Dear Editors of all news papers please place this letter addressed to The Honorable Prime Minister,MP’s and MPP’s to alert your readership of the impending laws that Health Care Givers will be forced to participate in against their conscious, against their beliefs, against their Charter of Rights and Freedoms. With a Call to action to all voters.

Dear Honorable Members of Government

I have sent letters in the past regarding Health Care and I have been following the debate and the pending laws being decided upon for Euthanasia in this country.

As Catholics you are aware that the Commandments this Country have been founded on; states that we Shall Not Kill.

.
I am a Catholic and an RPN practicing in the care giving of all kinds of patients.

.
I have spoken with and listened to Patients and Doctors and Anesthesiologists regarding this and feel that the information going out to the public is one sided. I have also attended talks by Dr. Margaret Somerville on this topic that she has researched for over 30 years and can be found online.

.
It is proven that if proper financing was put on living and assisted living, proper pain control measures were in place and funding for proper care-giving and supportive care. The stressors that contribute to a patient wanting to commit suicide would be very much reduced.

As written by Dr. Margaret Somerville of McGill University. Patients want to live. If pain and fear were properly addressed and patients weren’t feeling they were being a burden on family and their pain controlled; most patients would want to live. Also Mental Depression and Mental Health Issues need to be considered and proper care given. As well as age and maturity.

An Anesthesiologist  at my plce of work confirmed to me that there is always a way to medicate for pain without killing; as did Dr. M.J.  Randlett a local Palliative and Pain control Doctor of our Community.

I am asking you  Honorable gentleman in your capacity to become very vocal for the rights of Canadians.  And to protect all HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS to not be legislated to kill.   Or for doctors not to be mandated to send to a doctor that will.    This act is against our Faith and With the Charter of Rights and Freedoms as Canadians this needs to be addressed Now.

Please take the time to read and speak with Dr. Margaret Somerville  a McGill University professor; and read her studies that have been done for over 30 years on this same course in the Netherlands. Extermination is more the course there now after 30 years. Even those not given the chance to refuse death. Mentally challenged, Dementia and Alzheimer patients.

This law needs to have many checks and balances put into place. A Carte Blanche for the availability of doctor assisted suicide and assessments will show that many who believe they need to have this will be reduced 95% if proper funding is in place to help families, caregivers of those afflicted with diseases that can be managed. More funding also is needed for Palliative and Hospice care. And development of medical interventions and research. Where humane care is uppermost important.

To re-allocate funding from Abortion Clinics where the mother is not given the Full disclosure of what this will do to her health; or from all the thousands of programs costing Canadians Millions if not Billions for the purpose of pushing the French language issues across this country. This would give more funding to give people the care they need while living out theirs lives. Funding that the elderly have bought and paid for.

.
Even before this law there are many fighting to live out their lives their way with treatment but are not aloud to do so due to the lack of funding in healthcare at home for the dying or even in hospital.

Honorable Members of Government please allow all members of the caucus to vote their conscious and Mr. McDonnell please use the Not Withstanding Clause to stop this act of barbarism for our area for this impending law.
Please fight the good fight and protect life! You are all in a position to do so please take strength as Daniel did when he fought the Giant. For this fight needs to be won now. Once in place there will a very difficult time changing it. Look at the Abortion laws. Oh yeah! There are none! But that is for another letter!

Thank you

  1. Regardless of religion I subscribe to the concept of not killing one another. My life belongs to no other except myself and I have the ability to reason. I reason that I have the right to choose and therefore the right to die with dignity. The highest court in the land reflects the will of the majority and has spoken. Understandable that some will oppose. That is their right.

  2. Nurses will not be forced to participate. You may not like the concept but you will not be pulling the switch so to speak.

  3. I totally agree David. Let those who have had enough pain and suffering die with dignity. And let those who choose to carry on, carry on.
And leave the hocus pocus religious BS out of it.

  4. Any doctor no matter what their faith may be would have absolutely no moral character nor belief in anything that is God (god for the non Christians) nor have any kind of a belief in human life to agree to take part in euthenasia and I would never ever go to a doctor that believed in any of these things including abortion or any kind of life threatening action.

  5. A doctor takes oaths and that is to do what he can to save a life and not take it. My husband’s younger brother was born with down syndrome 56 years ago and his mother was offered abortion and she never took the life of her son. He died back in 2011 in the arms of his sisters of natural causes.

  6. You all wonder why I have a strong belief in God. My husband is my example. My husband went hunting with his brother, a friend and his dog in Lebanon in the mountains and he fell on the rifle that was defective and has brain injury and one eye. My husband wasn’t supposed to live but by the Grace of God he lived. Prayer moves mountains.

  7. I suppose Jules you make some valid points from a Christian (Roman Catholic) perspective. However other religions Gods do not necessarily adopt the same viewpoint. Allah the Muslim god might have a different stance on death and who can carry out penalties against Allah, under what circumstances and who. The Quran is also the word of a god.

  8. I agree with Furtz and David Oldham….and as Furtz said “Let those who have had enough pain and suffering die with dignity. And let those who choose to carry on, carry on.”

  9. My husband’s nephew who is 54 years old was diagnosed with brain cancer and goes to Dubai to get treated. The treatments for his cancer are not going very well and may have to have surgery. My husband’s nephew was always in the sun even here in Canada and the US and I wonder if that has anything to do with what he has besides stress. Who knows where it comes from.

  10. Times change, society changes. It wasn’t long ago that gay couples couldn’t go out in public, let alone get married. Canada says that they can get married now. And yet the bible still says a man shall not lay with another man. People don’t want religion to decide for them anymore. The people want comfort and choice in how their lives are lived. Just be thankful you’re not the one in that much pain

  11. Jerry the Bible even says that people will turn away from God and that is exactly what the ancient Israelites did and they were all chased out of Israel into Europe and other lands. What you see going on today is only a repeat of what already went on and history always repeats itself. People are going to suffer for their mistakes and I guarantee it.

  12. Please read the articles written by world renown Dr.Somerville.. As previously written that was obviously missed by some readers. Pain for 95% of patients is manageable. Palliative care is an area needed to be explored.Dr. Somerville has done that and being informed would lend more understanding. In Belgium the laws are being changed Dementia patients and disabled babies to be euthanized.. .

  13. Doctors take the Hippocratic oath and will be mandated to give the lethal injection or orders written to have a nurse give it. Or to risk their license if they do not refer to another doctor. Rights are rights. Those that are of faith must be allowed to have theirs.Read the bill being decided upon. Please get informed. lets have an intelligent discussion. Feelings cloud issues.

  14. We are in the end time just like the Bible predicts along with others. We are going to pay a heavy price for everything that is going on. Euthenasia, abortion, same sex marriage, etc. are grave sins and you will all see what is going to happen. No doctor or nurse in their right frame of mind would do such a thing. This is a mighty evil government that you elected.

  15. Darlene the “Oath” is not legally binding. The oath places value on human life and care. It does not address the matter of quality of life nor dignity however it does place an importance on the well being and rights of the patient. If the patient desires to be left to die with dignity arguably the oath provides for the co-operation and respect of the physician. That is the ongoing debate.

  16. So, I guess some people would have suffering people live on in pain, rather than die with dignity and on their own terms. Sad really, it’s really sad that some feel that way.

  17. Darlene I have difficulty with your suggestion of “intelligent conversation”. You speak of rights but then trample on those who would elect to die with dignity. You speak of rights but choose to ignore the ruling of the Supreme Court of Canada. So am I a good person of merit if I agree with your opinion and otherwise if I exercise those rights you speak of?

  18. Hugger there are meds to control a lot of the suffering and no need to kill people – that is something that I could never do nor can anybody with a conscience. A doctor is there to heal a patient and if things are beyong healing then you have to let the patient die but by giving very strong pain killers but not to kill.

  19. Darlene mentioned that I am Catholic and back in 87 I had a tubal ligation and no Catholic doctor here in Ottawa would do that operation because it is against our faith. One Catholic doctor that I had as family physician recommended a non Catholic doctor to do the procedure and she did it very well. No doctor of any faith will kill his patient no matter what his or her faith is – that is murder.

  20. Jules..those drugs you refer to control the pain, not the suffering. Everyone should be able to determine their fate, not have it decided by someone with alteria motives. Would you want to be on drugs and not be able to die in dignity?

  21. David
In reading anything of Dr. Margaret Somerville, Euthanasia and assisted Suicide started out just as innocently in the Netherlands but over time has escalated and morphed into a much worst set of decisions being made. None include the patient. Statistics have escalated to 30% greater death rate and that is not the sick and dying. That is defective babies, mentally challenged, depressed.

  22. Nothing in the bill at this time protects the rights of care providers, who can not and will not be party to this act. in my faith even to refer to another is against our faith. Nothing protects those not capable of making a rational decision on this either. Those who are suicidal, depressed, Those lost in the feeling of loneliness and not being needed by society or feel they are a burden. .

  23. FURTZ
Again I re iterate this pain deal needs to be addressed. But there are many ways we are not using at this time due to lack of funding, Anesthesiologist can be utilized more in this area. Our government has not addressed health care for as long as I have been voting. If funding was in place in this area you would find many would prefer life, to be with their families.

  24. Proper palliative care service is very spotty in Canada as is proper pain control. When the time comes, and it comes for everyone, I want to make my own decisions on how I check out. I sure as hell don’t want those decisions made by religious nut-bars or social idealogues.

  25. Darlene the situation that surrounds euthanasia in the Netherlands as you outlined concerns not the “act” itself but rather the implementation and forethought given to the legislation over the “act”. I would agree that refinement would be beneficial and hindsight to be a lesson on the topic. Quality of life is by reason and recent rulings a right of an individual of sound mind.

  26. Euthanasia – its all about natural section. Acting like animals who believe they are gods. Gen 2:7 “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul”. Only God can give life, and only God can take life. Ecc_12:7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

  27. Darlene there is a vast difference between suicide and euthanasia hence the ruling of the SCC. Legally I have protected my right to quality of life through my will and power of attorney. Protection simply requires responsibility and appropriate legal action. If you can plan a wedding or a vacation or your retirement than you can look after life realities (your eventual passing) as well.

  28. Controlling pain is separate from quality of life. A patient can have their pain managed but have zero quality of life. Any person associated with patient care would know that statement to be true. Quality of life as it pertains to individual rights is defined by the individual themselves. Your take on “quality of life” could and reasonably would vary dramatically from another individuals take.

  29. Newton illustrates exactly why I don’t want religious nut-bars making decisions for me, or limiting my decisions.

  30. Furtz you and I have found common ground. I respect your opinions on this matter.

  31. Pastor Tom my God gave me the gift of reason. That reason gave me control over choice. My God is a loving and merciful god. Should I exercise reason and choose quality of life over its alternative my God being of mercy and forgiveness will not turn away from me in my time of need. He is also available to you Pastor Tom. Should you choose.

  32. David – I don’t worship the god of reason, free will, or man’s so called innate goodness. I worship the God of grace! You don’t know anything about grace do you? It’s merit, choices, works that your religion tells you must do, as if you can earn God’s favor – well you can’t. The Bible teaches we are all slaves to our darkened mind, our wills are enslaved to sin – “there is none that doeth good..”

  33. When the time comes I’d like tto go with dignity, not kept alive be a use of people thinking they should be able to control my life.

  34. There are as many imaginary gods as there are imaginations. Some, like Newton’s, are pretty jealous and sadistic. Others are loving and forgiving. Mine happens to be a mass of noodles and meat-sauce, and loves to party. They are all different, and I’m sure they have different views on assisted death and such.

  35. Pastor Tom I will give you this; your interpretation of the Bible (not sure exactly which version you are referring to King James or….) is possibly the most dark and twisted interpretation I have so far encountered. If I didn’t know better I might think you to be the devil Satan. You do add a certain flavour to this forum. Peace be with you.

  36. In the Garden of Eden Adam and Eve were tempted by the snake (lucifer) telling them that if they ate of that tree that they too shall become gods. Well they ate of that tree and did not get eternal life that God has promised them. You choose evil and God will make you suffer the consequences. This present life is mighty evil and I want no part of it at all and that is the entire truth.

  37. I have never seen so many people who have turned against God and this is the life that we have to live with. If any of you can get the book “The Fourth Turning” by Strauss and Howe do so and if you cannot go to the following: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pitjVi6M5Gk
I heard about this book mentioned but went on line and had things explained by the author and go and listen you too Jamie.

  38. But Jules… As we discussed before, my talking chicken is way smarter than that talking snake.

  39. There is one thing about you Furtz is that you are hilarious. I must meet that talking chicken of yours and have a good chat with it about you. LOL LOL. ROLF!

  40. I’d rather believe in Furtz’s Flying Spaghetti Monster than some of the vile crap PTN spews.

  41. Hugger, It always amazes me how people use their imaginary gods for different purposes. Some use them to promote hate and bigotry, and some use them to promote love and understanding.

  42. David – I would not call my interpretation of the Bible “dark and twisted”, but I would clarify one thing. The Bible presents all of us as sinners fallen in Adam and at war with God. The Bible records the “the dark and twisted” words, actions, and lives of “dark and twisted” sinners. This is not just my “interpretation”. As “dark and twisted” sinners in today, we need a Savior, including you and I

  43. People shouldn’t assume that everyone is as screwed up as they are.

  44. Furtz – no need to assume, just stating Biblical facts. “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings”(Jer 17:9 -10).

  45. Pastor Tom thank you for your response without an accompanying judgement. If life is a journey and death (or new beginning) the destination then it would be valid to state that there are as different routes as there are stars. Our journey shapes us individually but in the end we are all the same. We are simply part of mankind. We do best when we respect that simple truth. IMHO.http://cornwallfreen

  46. No Newton. There are no “facts” in your ancient book of fairy tales. Just interesting (to some) stories about talking snakes, great floods, fiery lakes, and such. If you figure that you are so screwed up that you need “saving” or “salvation”, that’s fine…. go for it. But you shouldn’t assume that everybody is as screwed up as you seem to think you are.

  47. “Earth to David, come in David…”Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6). 1Ti_2:5 “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus”. “Without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sins…”

  48. Newton, You should try having at least one feed a week of pasta with some yummy meat sauce. It really does help to expel the scary monsters that reside under your bed and in your imagination.

  49. I would never go to a doctor or a nurse or anyone who practices “satanic rituals” of killing people. I no longer call a priest father – there is only one father and he is in heaven. The rest are sinners here on hearth. Doctors, nurses, etc. who perform euthenasia are nothing but witches and nothing else. I would rather die than to ever go to any of these satanic witches.
