SUV Strikes Several Motorcycles and Home

(ATHENS, ON) – On Sunday, July 17, 2016 at approximately 11:40 a.m., officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Leeds County detachment located a collision scene at County Road 5 and Main Street in the Town of Athens, Ontario which involved several motorcycles, a Jeep sport utility vehicle (SUV) and a residence.

Investigation to date, reveals that a 1999 Jeep Cherokee travelled through a gas station, on Main Street in the Village of Athens, and struck three separate motorcycles and their operators, it continued to travel and struck a residence, where it came to rest.  Leeds Grenville paramedics attended the scene

The operators of the 2011 Kawasaki motorcycly and 2003 Yamaha motocycle, a 60 year old male and 20 year old male, both from Elizabeth Kitley Township, were transported to hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries.  The operator of the 2010 Yamaha, a 56 year old male from Brockville, was not injured.

At the time the Jeep Cherokee collided into the Main Street residence it was occupied by four (4) persons – an adult male and three children.  As a result of the impact, the three children suffered minor injury with one child being transported to hospital by the adult in the home, as a precautionary measure.

The driver of the Jeep Cherokee, 68 year old, Wolfgang KERN of Athens was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with one count of Careless Driving.

An investigation is continuing into the cause of the collision and the damage to the residence.
