Cornwall Ontario Cst DANIEL MERPAW Charged by Brockville Police for Obstruction AUG 3, 2016

OFFICER CHARGED

Cornwall ON – A Cornwall Community Police Service officer was arrested and charged on Tuesday August 2, 2016, following an investigation by the Brockville Police Service.

Constable Daniel Merpaw has been charged with obstructing a peace officer contrary to the Criminal Code. He was released to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville, on September 2, 2016. The officer has been reassigned to administrative duties.

EDITOR’S NOTE – For some reason the CCPS left the item above off of the blotter and published it separately.  This isn’t the first time that they have omitted items from the police blotter and posted them on the CCPS site instead of including them in the blotter release. 

BREACH

 

Cornwall, ON – Sean Finnerty, 38 of Long Sault was arrested on August 2nd, 2016 and charged with breach of recognizance for failing report as directed. It is alleged the man failed to sign in as directed on August 1st, 2016 and an investigation ensued. On August 2nd, 2016 the man was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

 

WARRANT

 

Cornwall, ON – Jody Burgess, 47 was arrested on August 2nd, 2016 on the strength of a warrant. It is alleged the man breached his conditional sentence order and a warrant was issued for his arrest. On August 2nd, 2016 the man attended police headquarters to deal with the matter. He was taken into custody on the strength of the warrant and held for a bail hearing.

 

MISCHIEF

 

Cornwall, ON – A 41-year-old Cornwall woman was arrested on August 2nd, 2016 and charged with mischief. It is alleged during an argument with her common-law husband on August 2nd, 2016 the woman damaged a window and police were contacted to investigate. The woman later attended police headquarters to deal with the matter. She was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on September 6th, 2016. Her name was not released as it would identify the victim in the matter.

That must be a first for Cornhole to have one of its cops charged because in Cornhole they always get away with it but when you go to another town you find out that you are no better than anybody else and it’s about time long overdo. I will go and get myself a drink just now to celebrate – only one small one.
