View From the Hill by Keith Beardsley – Definition of a Limo for Minister Philpott AUG 21, 2016

Health minister Philpott’s defence is that the car that she was chauffered around in was not a limousine but a sedan. We also know that it was a high end Lexus ES 300. Here are a few definitions of “limousine” for the minister to ponder when she comes under fire for misleading parliament.

Definition of a limousine
Merriam-Webster:
  • a very large and comfortable car usually driven by a professional driver (called a chauffeur)
Oxford:
  • a large luxurious automobile, especially one driven by a chauffeur who is separated from the passengers by a partition
  • (North American) A car licensed to transport passengers in return for payment, typically more luxurious than a taxi and not fitted with a taximeter.
  • (North American) A passenger vehicle carrying people to and from an airport

Webster’s

  • any large, luxurious automobile, especially one driven by a chauffeur
  • a large sedan or small bus, especially one for transporting passengers to and from an airport, between train stations etc.
This minister is in for a rough time. It isn’t the big items that trip up a minister or a government. It is the small ones that really irritate the public.

  1. {MODERATED} You have to post with your first and last name.

  2. I had a Lexus ES300. It was a nice car. They stopped making that model in 2003 so the car in question is at least 13 years old. It does have a cassette tape deck though.
The ES300 is essentially a Toyota Corolla and one can be purchased today for less than $1,500.00.

NOT a limousine. But I can understand someone that worked in Mr. Harper’s PMO having great difficulty with these concepts.

  3. Can someone please find Keith Beardsley a job? That way he can stop writing about such drivel. He’s another Con who refuses to accept that Stephen Harper didn’t win the election. He’s grasping as straws to stay relevant.

  4. Hugger, Keith will be well taken care of by his party as long as he keeps writing garbage like this.

  5. Typical partisan drivel posted by the Reformers. The car is over 10 years old and was called a mid-size entry level luxury sedan by Lexus. It is not even worth $3000 today. Playing with semantics to bolster his BS..

  6. Harper spent over $1 MILLION to send 2 limos to India when they already had the exact same car in the country. I guess that is OK since it is Harper

  7. The Cons will be flinging poo from the wilderness for at least the next twelve years. We might as well get used to it. It’s all they can do.

  8. So she abused the taxpayers purse by overpaying on travel expenses. Oh, and admitted abuse of taxpayers money on airport lounges. So what, she is a Liberal and therefore automatically entitled, besides she was selected not on her qualifications but by her leader for her sex. Liberals representing liberal ideals, is that a bad thing?

  9. Mr. Oldham if there are no reigns put on expenses Canada will be bankrupt. Ontario is in very hot water and Alberta is not out of the woods after that horrible fire and all over the world oil and gas are down – people are finding alternative means of energy. Alberta was keeping Canada afloat but the ship is sinking. Germany and Czekoslovakia were told to keep at least 10 days of food.

  10. Every cabinet minister, federal and provincial, from either party, has flown first class and used airport “VIP” lounges since I can remember.

  11. Furtz yes they have flown first class and a lot of perks but there is a limit to these peoples expenses. There are those who overdo it and reigns have to be put on them. I had to look after the taxi chits when I worked in Public Works for a short term and that is the way to go. If you give in to every whim you put the country into a huge deficit and this is what happened all along.

  12. People seem easily distracted over issues of entitlement at the expense of loosing focus of the bigger picture. The promise to the electorate was 30 billion of deficit spending in the first three years returning to a balanced budget in the fourth year. Instead Canadians likely will face deficit spending well over 100 billion according to revised estimates.

  13. The point being who really in the grand scheme of things should be worrying about a few deceptive, opportunistic, unethical politicians. After all, they exist in each party and have since politics were born. Bigger fish to fry.
