Student charged possession of a weapon

(Ottawa) –The Ottawa Police Service West District Investigations has charged a 17 year old male student with possession of a weapon.

On Tuesday, October 25th, 2016, at approximately 2:30pm, officers attended a school in the 400 block of Longfield Drive regarding information of a student in possession of a handgun.   Patrol officers and tactical officers searched the grounds and inside the school while the school was on lockdown.

A 17 year old male student was arrested inside the school and a replica handgun was seized from inside his backpack.

The student is facing charges of possession of a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon and mischief.

No student, staff or teacher was threatened with the weapon, and no person was injured from the incident.

The student was released to the custody of his parent with a Promise to Appear and an Undertaking.  He will appear in court on November 15th, 2016.
