(WINCHESTER, ON) – On Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at approximately 3:15 p.m. officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Stormont Dundas and Glengarry detachment, responded to a report of an armed robbery that occurred outside of the RBC Royal Bank in the Town of Winchester.

Assisting with the investigation is the OPP Canine Unit, Emergency Response Team (ERT), Forensic Identification Services and the SD&G Crime Unit. 

Officers on scene were advised that the male victim was in the parking lot of the RBC Royal Bank and was approached by an unknown male, who brandished a weapon and demanded money.  The suspect struck the victim causing a minor injury and an undisclosed amount of money was provided to the suspect who then fled the area on foot. 

No suspect description is available at this time.

As the Winchester Public School is in close proximity to the robbery location, as a precautionary measure the school was placed on lockdown. The lockdown has since been lifted.

The investigation is in the preliminary stages and an update will be issued when accurate and confirmed information becomes available.
