CRTF Charge CLAUDE HAINEAULT in 113 KG Marijuana Bust NOV 15, 2016

 

Over 100 kilograms of marihuana seized by CRTF.

CORNWALL ONTARIO – During the evening of July 21, 2016, the Cornwall Regional Task Force’s (CRTF) marine unit observed a vessel without navigation lights travelling eastbound on the St. Lawrence River near Hamilton Island. The vessel was followed to the vicinity of Pointe Trépanier, Quebec where it met a second boat. Suspecting illegal activity, the marine unit approached the vessels and were able to apprehend one of them. The investigation resulted in the arrest of Claude HAINEAULT (age 47) from St. Anicet, Quebec. HAINEAULT was charged for the possession of 113 kilograms of marihuana found within eight (8) hockey bags. Also seized was a Hydro yacht boat outfitted with a Yamaha 90-hp outboard motor.

HAINEAULT was released from custody on a recognizance and his next court appearance is slated for January 16, 2017 at the Valleyfield Court House, Valleyfield, Quebec.

Our proximity to the international border is a risk for the importation or exportation of contraband products across the St. Lawrence River.” said Inspector Steve Ethier, Officer in charge of the CRTF, “With our partners, we will continue to have a strong presence both on land and on the waterways in our continued efforts in maintaining a safe Canada.”
