CORNWALL ONTARIO – A hectic weekend for the Nationals was also a productive one, as Cornwall picked up two victories in three games. The Nationals defeated the Watertown Wolves 8-4 on Sunday afternoon at the Civic Complex in front of 620 fans.

Maxime Guyon, playing in his first game for Cornwall, led the way offensively with three goals and an assist.

John Schiavo opened the scoring for the Wolves with 3:59 to play in the opening period, beating Nicolas Delongchamps with a nifty wrist shot. But, the Nationals leveled the score with a buzzer beater at the end of the first as Joel Trottier squeaked a shot past Ed Zdolshek with 0.7 seconds left on the clock.

Tristan Elie one-timed a perfect feed from Guyon to the back of the net at 3:39 of the middle frame before Lou Dickenson added a shorthanded marker at 5:13 to open up a two-goal lead for Cornwall.

The Nationals took a 4-1 lead as Guyon tapped in a feed from Sylvester Bzdyl for a powerplay marker at 8:45 of the second. Trottier then beat Zdolshek through the legs with 6:43 to play in the second.

Jeremy Akeson’s shot from the point beat Delongchamps with exactly two minutes to play in the second.

Guyon batted the puck out of the air and past Zdolshek for his second of the game 65 seconds into the third and he then buried his third of the contest on a pretty feed from Elie at 12:27 of the third.

Anthony Mezzagno took off on a breakaway and undressed Denis Tasaruk, in to replace Zdolshek mid-way through the third period, with 4:50 to play.

Jesse Facchini scored two late third-period goals to round out the scoring.

Cornwall outshot Watertown 38-35. Guyon (first), Jason Dolgy (second) and Mezzagno were the announced stars.

PROWLERS EDGE NATS: On Saturday night at Port Huron, Myles McCauley had a hat trick to lead the Prowlers to a 6-4 win over the Nationals. Marley Keca, Anthony Mezzagno, Lou Dickenson and MJ Graham had the Cornwall goals. Jason Dolgy and Bzdyl had a pair of assists each. Brandon Billie was tagged with the loss in goal for the Nationals.

GERVAIS SOLID IN WIN: On Friday night in Watertown, Dickenson had a four-point night to lead the Nationals to a 6-4 win over the Wolves. Olivier Gervais was outstanding in goal for Cornwall with a 52-save performance. Dolgy had two goals and assist for the Nationals. Mezzagno and Graham also scored for the Cornwall, while Bzdyl chipped in three assists.

UP NEXT FOR NATS: It’s a lighter schedule for the Nationals next weekend with a pair of road contests. Cornwall travels to Danbury to take on the Titans on Friday, Nov. 25 (7:15 p.m.) and the next night, the Nationals are in Berlin to face the River Drivers (7 p.m.). Cornwall has a pair of home games the following weekend. The Nationals host Berlin on Saturday, Dec. 3 and Port Huron on Sunday, Dec. 4.
